Anyone interested in skiing Haystack in Southern VT on Saturday Morning...it is a recently closed ski area. I have no beta, never skied there but, I imagine it will be good!!!

I can't make it, Rich, but skied Haystack a lot one season when So VT got crushed with natural snow (94-95 sounds right) and my buddies and I rented a small cabin nearby (I think it was 1,500 for the season). There are some nice pitches and great tree shots on a subpeak to the skier's right of the upper mountain which was served by the Witches Triple. The liftline is Gandalf or Wizard - some fun little drops in the trees to skier's right. I think there is a shot that breaks off skiers left from the liftline (Excalibur maybe?) that's pretty steep and lots of fun with some more trees to the left. There are also fun, mellow glades all over the mountain (look to skiers right from the main summit for best pitches). The ridge trail connecting Haystack to Mt. Snow is an amusing little tour with a few pretty views. Have a blast and report back dood.

Anyone know if the current owner keeps the gate locked or otherwise discourages skinning? And have they mowed the trails recently? (Oh, and how are the plans for a helicopter landing pad? What a bunch of dreamers...)

LOL....I remember those fools had a billboard in downtown Springfield, MA advertising their super lush, members only ski resort!!! I think they actually spent money on facilities before going bust......

I doubt the slopes have been maintained..but I did get a PM from a local who let me know that the owners are sensitive to trespassers. She also assured me the skiing is terrible!

LOL. Its pronounced like Yawn. and Im a dude. Also I'm no longer local there I just grew up there.
All right the cats out of the bag on one of my secrets. Its a gated community and Last season there was a guard stationed at the guard shack. I dont know the current status of the club, and there are occupied condos up there. Last time I was up there All the infrastructure was in operable shape still. Last I heard they were trying to get around some legal glitches to sell the ski hill. Im not sure if you can find the trail map on the web still, but I have a trail map still, that might be shared. For any one willing to tour a little the hill can be accessed from the back side as well.

Used to love that place when ASC owned it and could hit it on the All For One Pass. They were closed during the week, so if you got a late week dump, Saturday would still yield fresh tracks everywhere. Too funny that the "private resort" venture didn't pan out. Idiots!

The one season I rode there, they had a $19 Haystack only pass, so it was a no brainer to go do 35 runs on the witches chair instead of dealing with the hordes down the street and paying triple the price. Don't think I ever went there the 1 or 2 seasons I had the ASC pass.

We drove past one of my childhood stomping grounds (Round Top) on Sunday which has now become a private area called Bear Creek. I wonder how they're doing. Anybody ever try that place? It looks the same as when I was a kid as far as I remember.

The one private place I really want to try is Yellowstone Club - that's supposed to be insane. I think the cheapest home there is something like a cool 10 mil.

I also have been up around there last winter and saw the guard in the front gate. When with my dog on the base of the hill I saw a Club employee giving some people that were coming down a hard time and almost called police. I think with their current condition the insurance liability is huge, and if someone was injured they would have a ligit claim at the Owners. Prolly better off at Hogback.
