Dates are 4/17-4/19 for Inferno Weekend.
Okay, who else is planning on taking part, supporting, generally making a fool of themselves over that crazy weekend???
Lets also use this as a way to post plans or questions as to training days, logistics, etc.
This will be my 3rd year taking part. '07 as the ski leg on the winning team, last year as part of the winning 2-person team and back this year as a 2-person team once again.
Okay, starting with an official "training weekend". 3/27-3/29 there will be a group of 15-20 of us staying at The Seasons by Attitash. Throughout the weekend various groups will be doing all legs of the race. Typically Saturday involves the run, kayak and bike with Sunday for heading into the bowl (and if weather/conditions allow hitting the summit). After the run leg on Saturday morning there will be options for those not kayaking or biking (like me) to snowshoe, hike into the bowl, other skiing. There is some couch/floor space available (bring a pad or air mattress) for a nominal fee (beer plus maybe $10 or $15) Friday or Saturday night. PM me if you'd like additional details.
On the support note, my Sherpa from last year who shlepped up my skis, boots, pack so I could "go light" on the hike has bailed on me. If anyone may be interested in acting as support I could offer the following:
1) Free couch or air mattress space at The Seasons for race weekend.
2) Free transportation to/from Pinkham on race day.
3) Free dinner at Flatbreads Friday night before the race.
4) Free meal at Wildcat at the awards ceremony after the race.
5) FREE BEER (at least a 6'er of your choosing).
Anyone???
You can pencil me in. I will check with my boss, Mrs RR, regarding the requisite Hall Pass and get back to you ASAP.

Bit of an update. If weather cooperates, I'll be at Pinkham to head somewhere Friday, 3/27 by 9:00 to kick off the training weekend.
If anyone's interested in staying Friday or Saturday night, floor/couch space still available for $15/night plus beer.
As to race weekend, I've lined up my support from someone previously planning to race but had their team fall thru. Works out since he was planning to be up that weekend anyway.
RR - thanks for the thought. Space still available if you need a place to stay race weekend.

I might be there, curious though, how early do you have to be there i you want a parking spot in the main lot? I remember other years seeing cars parked two miles down the road..

The night before . . .
He's not kidding. Last year I left my vehicle there the night before and got a prime spot.
Race day, my run support person dropped me off after the run (about 8:30) and cars already lined up all along 16. Pretty much after 9:00 you were parking at Wildcat. Word was the lot was full by 6:30/7:00 that morning (and with a line waiting).
PwdrHound - awesome photos! Gee, maybe we could put your services to use. I know there are others looking for the easy way out getting their skis into the bowl.

Last year sucked....went to GOS instead!!! I say that because it was only my second ravine weekend when the Inferno hit. This year I'm going to get my fill of the ravines before they go to hell! That way, I'll actually plan to enjoy the race this year....maybe!
As for support crew, I'd be happy to get gear up the trail and into the bowl for folks!

I love carrying stuff for other people:

Especially when they tip me well!
However, I have already committed to the UNH Woodsmen Meet on that Saturday. Alas, I will be giving up my chance of being your ski-b:cooldog:tch for the day to possibly get my mug on ESPN.

Great for half the weekend for having a good large group getting in some excellent Inferno-specific training. 23 of us staying in a few condos at the Seasons.
Started Friday afternoon as 3 of us did a 9 mile hill run all around the Glen Ledge area. Started at Storyland, went up Glen Ledge, hitting all the side ledge streets along the way, down to Jericho Rd then back up and over to return to Storyland. Pretty serious hill session in there (oh yeah, and I had done an easy 5 miles earlier that morning).
Saturday morning we started the run just after 8:00. One other runner and I broke away on the hill and cruised a couple quick miles then eased up to finish at Thorne Pond in just under an hour. I then ran the 1.5 miles back to the condo, got some breakfast and headed up to Pinkham.
Arrived later than I wanted (just before 11:00) and had to park 1/2 mile down the road:eek: Quick skin up to HoJos and decided after seeing the hordes descending on the bowl I'd give HH a try. Plus I wanted something that would allow a nice fast booter. Figured I'd just get a good workout in with some okay skiing. But on the way up I noticed nobody has skied climber's left fork. Over I walked with one other guy and we hit freshies on the skier's left side (of the climber's left fork). Well, there was the whole other side, so at the Y I traversed back to the boot pack, back up and over and hit the skier's right of climber's left fork. All the way down. Still had time for another if I motored, so motor I did back up the boot pack. This time I stayed far skier's right (on the right fork), and found another little untracked shot between the rock band above the Y. Untracked on HH on a busy Saturday - who'd a thought???
While I went skiing, another group did the kayak section and reported reasonable water level. Higher than this time last year, but last year there was still a huge snowpack.
After the kayak, a group of 16 did the bike (plus extra), and there were 5 guys who did the run, kayak and bike that day. They arrived at Pinkham at 3:00, just as I was finishing my run down the Sherbie. I had planned ahead and had some coolers stashed in the change-up room with some nice goodies for the riders.
Saturday night consisted of much drinking....
Sunday morning was supposed to be the group hike into the bowl but the weather wasn't looking good. 4 of us decided to make the most of it. I jogged up to HoJos (38 minutes but no skis) and continued up about halfway to the bowl. Other 3 brought up skis to just hit the Sherbie. I started back down from HoJos and met them about 150 yards before they reached HoJos. I bet them I could beat them down. I won. Got back to the car in just over 15 minutes, as the Tuck's trail was just perfectly soft snow for flying down. I think I had as much fun doing that than I would have had skiing down the Sherbie!

Can't get up there this weekend.
Have you tried the Inferno-specific message board? You can access it from friendsoftuckerman.org then following the Inferno links.
Or, you can just use this link - http://friendsoftuckerman.org/index.php

I can't get up this weekend...not that I am competing but, I still would like to help out hauling gear. So, if anyone is interested, we should make plans to get together soon :)
Have a good weekend!

So who's taking part in the race? Acting as support? Just planning to be up there for the day/weekend?
I'll be on Team Waters. 2-person team. I'm doing the run, hike and ski legs.
If anybody wants to meet Friday night, I'll be at Eastern Slopes Inn between 5-6 with a large group. Also will be hanging out at the condos Friday night (The Seasons).
If you're up for the day during the race, stop by over at the transition area to say hello. I'm hoping to be done around 11:15, then we'll have a good sized group hanging out at the base of LG. I'm sure more skiing will ensue after lunch.

So I'm new to the whole Inferno weekend and I plan on making a trip with some buddies this year. We aren't competing or anything, just plan on coming up, skiing, partying, taking in the whole experience. Anyway, we definitely want to stay up at the shelters Saturday night, as far as i can see though it looks like you need to be there early Friday morning to get one reserved? What are the odds of us getting a lean-to if we're there early Saturday morning? Zero? Any help would be huge, thanks a lot.

There's really no way to say a particular time. Can't predict how many people will arrive and when (since it's first come first serve). Earlier the better. The nicer the weather is supposed to be, the sooner stuff will fill up.

Thanks for the info... in your opinion would next weekend not be the right time for a group of four first-timers to head up to Tux? Or should it be a blast with everyone there?
Early Friday morning is the time imo, as those who can will register on Friday. Saturday morning? I think it very unlikely, tho' possible to get a spot, but getting three?
What is it Han Solo used to say?
"Never tell me the odds!"
On ordinary w/e, Saturday AM would be fine, if you were there by 9AM.

In April 2005 I went to tux for the first time ever on inferno weekend. We arrived at Pinkham at about 5:20 to get in line for signup. We were a group of four (Me, another dad, and our 2 eight year old boys). There were four people ahead of us--two in sleeping bags on the deck who had been there more or less all night, and two others. Quite a few more people showed up before the doors opened--I don't remember what time this was. Being numbers 5 thru 8 in line, we scored spots. We heard a bit later on that there were a total of about 40 spaces open for Sat night. I don't know what time the last one filled up.
It was a beautiful sunny weekend, and there were thousands in the bowl that day. We had a blast and spent two nights at Hermit, climbed Boott Spur that Sunday.
This was 2005-- I don't know how it may have grown since then.
