Looks like the mountain has claimed it's first of the new mellenium.

I heard on the news last night that at least one person has died in an avalanch in the gulf of slides. I think the story goes that two people were hiking up to ski the gulf when an avalanch hit them.

Let's all learn from this one. I thought it was way too early, and with the recent snow and warm weather I can only assume the avalanch danger was high.

Got any details....?

I'd be curious to see what the deal was.. Im sure that that face was loaded up... Like I said in a previous post - you can actually see the leward aspect rapidly loading with snow if you check the cam from time to time...

Thanks M@, we need to remember that at any time we may have to dig someone out or be dug out by others.

I work part-time at EMS and might be able to get a T4T avvy training session through the Climbing School. It's not really cheap until you think about what's sometimes at stake. I'll poke around and see what I can find out. I'll get back to y'alls on it.

Please note that was in Feruary of 2000, nearly three years ago. Not that it diminishes the tragedy at all, but this is not current events, and somehow I don't think there is quite enough snow yet for a devastating avalanche.

Good idea RR... I'm hoping to get Avi II this winter..

I'd be more than happy to walk people through tranceiver training as well as a shear block test. But official class is best..

I still get all that facet stuff confused...

somehow I don't think there is quite enough snow yet for a devastating avalanche. thank God...

This is a really bad time of year for slides though... And I do believe that the GOS is capable of quick top loading.

I remember that... That was around the time a slide nailed a guy in New York State.

And buy or rent a really nice transceiver!

Sorry... Just being selfish... The more people have them the better off I am...

Sorry... Just being selfish... The more people have them the better off I am... Absolutely! Not owning one and knowing how to use it is the main reason I have never skied in Avvy prone places or in avvy possible conditions.

I even wear mine in-bounds when I'm out west...

First time was in Fernie... I thought maybe it was overkill until I saw all the locals were wearing them as well.. Plus you start noticing shovels sticking out of packs and stuff too..

cool... I could talk about this stuff all day..

Transceiver hopefully this year, I'd like to try tucks in other than spring conditions this year

I'm still getting used to wearing a helmet...

I got one but dont wear it all the time.. I do on the headwall though..

Please no flames... I understand the consequences all to well...
