First Trip 4/13

I am planning a trip to Tuckerman with friends on the weekend of 4/13. This is our first visit. What should we expect for conditions on the hiking trail? Will it be hard packed? Also, I see many posts that recommend mountaineering boots and crampons. Does anyone know of an outfitter that will rent this equipment?

I'd expect the trail would be packed (unless we get a huge snowstorm) since the trail is well used. Mountaineering boots aren't required... just a decent pair of hiking boots. Crampons are a bonus if you have them... borrow/beg/rent. Our group is going up next weekend (Easter) so I'll be posting photos and a report on Monday on this site. Have a great trip!
