My husband and friend hiked Tuckerman last year, and the whole family is scheduled to go next week. I'm concerned that it may be too much for my 9 and 10 year old, who are moderately active but not experienced. Do children that age climb there often?

while it is not unheard of for children 9-10 years old (and sometimes even younger!) to hike to Tuckerman's and even the summit itself, generally you may wish to consider the individual experience and temperment of the child.

if you are just hiking to HoJo's and the kids are fairly active, i don't think they will have much difficulty. if you are planning on hiking the ravine or summiting washington, you may wish to consider warm up hikes to:

A) see if they enjoy it
B) have the stimina and strength to do it.

i remember being 10 and being dragged on hiking trips that were beyond me, it was not fun. i'd say just make sure the kids are into it, and also remember, every step up is a step back down. just see it from your kids eyes and make sure it's something they will enjoy.
