Have you ever looked into what it would take to add a live chat? I don't know about these things but I know some guys I work with have created one. I guessing its just needs a server to be hosted on. It would make a great addtion to the site.

Please be aware that this chat area is 3rd party software which they provide for 'free'. Off course you know free = ADS. I'll find an ad free chat in the future if there is enough interest in a chat service (and assuming I don't have to shell out a pile of dough).
