View Full Version : *bad word*
Dave has mentioned that he wants to filter out the swearing, i.e. even first-two-letter-swapped-swearing
I replied that he must also filter out 'rain' and 'melt' and 'thaw' becuase these words are equally offensive.
What do you think, oh gentile community?

I think along with getting rid of the 3 words (r@!n, th@w and m*lt) you should get rid of :raining:

Oh great! Now this naughty topic is visible again.
Actually what would be more interesting is to have a 'word' replacer which would convert words to something else. I have some interesting/fun ideas in regards to this whole issue to think about... I'll think I'll leave it as a surprise for yah'all. I'm also thinking of an automated reward system for members based on some highly complex analysis of the text when postings a new message. I'll need some exceptions and grace variables to handles Franko's french accent of course :D

Dis-moi pas que je serai pu tout seul ici ! (Enfin !!!!!) hehe
Ils rient bin gros de mon anglais, mais tu devrais les voir quand ils essaient d'écrire en français, c'est assez comique ! D'autant plus que j'arrive pas à faire comprendre à Dave que "Tuckerman Ravine", en français, ce n'est pas "La Ravine de Tuckerman" lololol
Dave, for your reward system, I want 1 point for each word that I write correctly. 10 points for each sentence without syntax error or without grammatical error and 100 points if I mix a sentence with no errors at all :D :D :D :D :D

Ha ha Franko! I translated your french back to english and your still bad, check it out!...
Be to you French-speaking Kross0ver? Say to me not that I will be able all alone here! (Finally!!!!!) hehe They laugh large bin of my English, but you should see them when they try to write in French, it is rather comic! More especially as I do not manage to render comprehensible in Dave that "Tuckerman Ravine", in French, it is not "the Gully of Tuckerman"
Oh well... :reading:

Je ne parle pas français bien, mais je peux dire quelques phrases que n'est pas compliqué.

Don't tell me that FINALLY I won't be alone here anymore !!!!!

They laugh a lot of my english, but you should see them when they try to write in french, it's enough funny. Especially as I can't make understand Dave that Tuckerman Ravine, in french, it's not "The Ravine of Tuckerman" lololol
Seriously, I totally knew that someone would be able to translate it easily (and I didn't used some "joual" to make it tougher to understand. Seriously, I'm surprised that few persons here talk french at all... this is already surprising, considering there is no reason to speak french when you live in USA. In Ontario, though, the french should be more common, cause there is still a good number of french-ontarians.
Enough amazing, NH_Tele... with even the "ç" and the "é"

Franko: This is the best I can do to translate your english to french... does it make sense?...
Sérieusement, j'ai totalement su que quelqu'un pourrait traduire lui facilement (et moi pas utilisé un certain "joual" l'a rendu plus dur pour comprendre. Sérieusement, je suis étonné que peu de personnes ici parlent le français du tout... que ceci étonne déjà, considérant là n'est aucune raison de parler français quand vous vivez aux Etats-Unis. Dans Ontario, bien que, le Français devrait être plus commun, la cause il y a toujours un bon nombre de français-ontarians.

Ishh... the translation is interesting, but it makes me think that I may have completely wrongly expressed what I meant about the english people talking french. I wanted to mean that I was surprised that some of you, like Ski Las Lenas, Bannick, NH_Tele, M@, you of course and others that I forget now (sorry) talk a little bit of french. Ok for Bannick and you who live in our neighbour province, it's a bit more normal, although Bannick is from Seattle... but it's surprising and I'm impressed to see some USA people to speak french !
It was a :) , not a :(
(please tell me if I say something bad for someone on the board... If I have something to say against someone, I don't say them on the board (except in rare situations...)
For your translation, it was enough close... here would be the exact translation :
Sérieusement, je savais très bien que quelqu'un serait capable de traduire le message facilement (et je n'ai pas utilisé de joual pour le rendre plus dur à comprendre). No worry Franko. I used the Altavista translation tool to convert english to french and vice versa. I use it a lot if I need to translate french text. It always comes out a bit funny :)
Cheers!

Est-ce qu'il y a quelqu'un ici qui n'aime pas les francophones? Peut-etre un d'eux -- Franko?
Ben, c'est lui -- Frankontour est celui qui deteste les francophones -- la foule dont ce meme Franko tient ses racines -- quelle probleme existential. Mais c'est exactement pourquoi il fait du ski -- pour s'echapper lui-meme.

hahahha... I missed a bit of this topic. It's pretty funny though.
Oui Frank je suis Québécois de souche :) . Par contre je ne crois pas que le français est sa place ici, depuis que la pluspart des gens proviennent des États Unis.
Translations for our english friends (to make sure that I speak to everyone) :
Yes Frank I am native from Québec :) . On the other hand I don't beleive that french have his place on this board since most of the poeple are from the United States.
Let me be clear, I don't pretend that nobody from the US speak french, but I beleive that most of the US poeple don't speak french. Further more than that, it would be unjust to write in french while some poeple would not understand. Let be fair.

Yeah, of course Crossover. I never wanted to speak french here ;)
(except may be with LeFemmesauCanada who only write in french ! hehe)
French is a dying language anyway... so I even rush to understand why some english people speak french a little bit, here... I wonder how much time we will speak french, in Quebec (if not separating from Canada, but this is a debate that I won't start here). If there is no changes, probably 3-4 generations at maximum.
Mais je suis quand même content de ne plus être le seul francofun sur le board !
(but I'm happy to not be the only french-speaking on the board anymore!)

Merde!
Frank you have no idea how many Americans speak french. Even more speak Spanish. We may have a relatively low bilingual rate when compared to countries like canada and western europe and it is also somewhat regional ie, more in Boston or Miami than Arkansas.
French is no closer to being dead than japanese, german, italian, etc... don't forget the largest country in the EU has it as their national language.
no response necessary

No errors at all. Some may say you are missing a comma, but that is a style issue not grammar. Also the mix is not exactly the best word to use, but again, stylistically it could be viewed as prosaic.

Oh yeah and on topic:
I tend to agree with M@. The swearing around here is pretty minimal in my view and 'rain', 'thaw', 'melt' are far more offensive, or at least far more disturbing.

I'm a Yankee. That means I like the Red Sox, plain dealing, and straight talk. If something sucks, I'm not afraid to hear someone say it. "Melt", "thaw", and "rain" are some of the dirtiest 4-letter words I know.
Interesting linguistics in this group. How many people could get something out of French language posts (not that I'm suggesting it; I'm just personally curious, and not blessed with the gift of poll).
I can get very little out of a french post. I recognize a couple words mostly, but the grammer is beyond me.
Franco was giving me a lesson in french on chat last night though.

Ouain, it was not badly special yesterday evening... 30 minutes with M @ which spoke French
(I've already seen a worst translation... must admit, but it doesn't mean the same thing that I wrote on top ;) )

I pretty much understand it completely. I question a few of Franks translations, but I think that is because my french is about as imperfect as Franks english
