Those of you familiar with our Snow Rangers probably have met Cutler the AVY dog.

Although he's usually wearing a "do not feed me" sign on his vest, it's always so tempting... I'll have to find some other way to get Cutler to remember me as dog's best friend.

Beacons, probes, and shovels are nice, but I'd want Cutler's eyes, ears, and nose looking for me if ever...

While all of us are preparing for ski season (you are doing those dry land workouts, aren't you?), Cutler has been training for winter, too. Here are a couple pictures from Cannon Mt. yesterday, 9/20/03, where the White Mountain Search and Rescue Working Group (NH Fish & Game, USFS, AVSAR, RMC, MRS, NEK9 SAR, AMC, SOLO, UVWRT, NH Parks, EMSCS, TMH, et al) held an inter-agency training with the NH State Police and NH Army National Guard helicopters used for search and rescue.

I apologize for the poor lighting and low res. It was a beautiful day in the mountains, with scattered clouds. This part of the exercise happened during one of the cloudier moments, and I reduced the rez to upload.

Here is a photo from tuckerman.org with both rescue dogs. I always thought Cutler was the dark brown German Shepard. What is his correct name then? :dog:

dave, that just goes to show I should never make assumptions about avalanche conditions, or AVY dogs names, without checking with the Snow Rangers first! Guess I'll have to ask Chris to straighten me out.

Well I'm not sure that I am right... I know one of those dogs is Cutler. I'm sure someone on the board can verify which is Cutler, and what the other pups name is.

I'll go out on a limb, and say (I think) Brad Ray's dog is "Tuckerman".

I was up in 2000 talking to Brad Ray, and we were talking about the dog Tuckerman, and he mentioned, "He retires in 13 days." Tuckerman is Brad Ray's dog I guess. I guess if you see him up there, Brad can't be too far away.
