Figured I'd post this here as it's got pictures.

Went out at lunch to find a sand pit marked in the middle of this nature preserve around the corner from my house... and this is what I found:

Pretty dissapointing. Max slope was maybe 30deg - and tons of rocks and crap. Not what I had in mind.

So I'm driving home, and a remember the water works company has a sand pit, I remember this right as I drive by it and WHAM! I find it:

I think this'll be PERFECT for our needs. It's kinda gated off - but I'm sure it'll be open friday afternoon - and I know back way in if it isn't.

It's very similar to Tucks in design, if not scale. There's an excellent "waterfal" portion that must be 70deg. I measure a little underneath it at 50:

Nice soft landings, and after taking these pix: It'll be good practice for picture taking on steepness and stuff too.

About 1/3 of a mile from my house too, so we could hike with skiis from my place. I might have long trail on tap if we're lucky.

Here's the Co-ords:
N42° 49.902'
W71° 30.417'

Directions: Exit 11 off Everrete Trnpk, go west to industrial drive, take a right, it's 0.5 miles on your left.

Wow, great work M@. I am impressed by your diligence. I'll try to scout out a southern Maine pit for those of us out this way.

From the photos it looks like you are going to have to launch of a cornice.

YIKES!

So, M@, is this a lift access "area", or are you hiking for you turns?? :happyhiker:

The cornice is what makes sand pit skiing fun. Looks like we can get in 2-3 jump turns in that sized pit. I'm there.

At what time should we meet? 4, 4:30ish?
