I didn't let the temps keep me off the slopes this past weekend and for that I am happy. With only a few days of snowmaking temps to get things in order Sunday River and Wildcat both had some very good skiing this past weekend.

I'm not much of a SR fan, but I bought the $299 Attitash/SR pass and will use it to get 1/2 price tixs at the 'Cat and Jay Peak as much as I can. So, with that in mind and with my parents, brother, aunt, uncles, cousins, and a whole slew of friends and family going on a SR/Wildcat ski club weekend I decided to meet up with them for some turns.

Not expecting much more than a bunch of annoying brats at SR, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the snow and the lack of crowds. I love it when the weatherman starts blabbering about instant frostbite and artic conditions... it keeps everyone home! Saturday I spent most of the day running laps on the Barker HSQ. Right Stuff, Ecstasy, Sunday Punch, and Cascade were all in great shape. Right stuff takes the honors as the run of the day. Didn't head over to White Cap based on reports from my bro that it was windblown boilerplate... pretty happy just lapping turns in nice pp. In all honesty, it was the best man made snow I've ever skied on. The super low temps must have a lot to do with it... regardless, it was light, fluffy, almost natural snow. Not nearly as dense or wet as what one typically finds with man made. Unfortunately, there isn't a heck of a lot of cover in the trees, so I didn't venture off piste at all.

Sunday at Wildcat... I met up Sat. night with an old buddy of mine who used to race. Second run of the day finds me taking a lip with WAY too much speed... not sure what happened next, but I think my bindings released upon landing sending me hurtling through space and crashing on my face/chest. (NOTE: Do not put an oversized George Kastanza wallet in your chest pocket! I just got back from the doc and fortunately the x-rays are negative, but I'm in a world of hurt right now.) Anyway, after brushing off and catching my breath I continued on till the lifts shut down making tracks on Lynx,Upper/Lower Catapult, Bobcat and Cheetah. The snow held up pretty well due to the very light crowds. Around 1:00 p.m. it started to snow at a decent clip and the final hours of the day were the best with a nice fresh 1-2" coating everything.

All in all, a much better weekend with conditions vastly improved in just the past week.
