I'd like to be at MRG
In the octopus' garden on the snow
We'd ski us in, we'd fart all around
we'd fly down then hit the ground SKWANZO!
I'd ask my friends to come and ski
The octopus' garden with me
I'd like to be at MRG
In the octopus' garden in the sun.
We would huck the ice from above
In our little hideaway beneath the trees
Banging our knees on the big bumps
In the octopus' garden near paradise....
KMRN and I tackled and conquered The Octopus' Garden today. After having our confidence shattered in the morning, neither of us seemed to be able to get our groove, we finally started to ski well. A trip down Paradise to warm up, with a jaunt off trail to skiers left for some impresively deep powder, and we started to feel good.
It was warm... really f'n warm. The thermometer at the base broke forty and we both had to shed layers. The sun was still shining when we ventured over and the quiet solitude and shade dappled snow was beautiful. A little ways down, I in the lead, and we came upon a rather serious ice fall with little run out to speak of. It was too late for me without hiking back up, but KM was able to ski around and position herself to take a picture from below, to be posted when she figures out how to do so from her brand new camera phone.
I planned my decent very carefully and even suggested that KM position herself behind a tree for protection. She estimated that my skis, where I was holding just above, were 4 or 5 feet above her head, making it about a ten foot huck with a required turn in mid air. There was enough space for a planned fall, assuming I got my skis around. After a few false starts, a perfect, if not elegant, turn.
We continued through the tight trees with another few drops, not so treacherous, and we popped out on Vixen, the easy way down from the Sunnyside Double chair. We looked up and had a hard time, no, an impossible time determing exactly where we skied. It was beautiful!
As M@ so eloquently said re: my Tuckerbrook TR, It is a fantastic feeling to come through that and say, "I can't wait to do that again!"
