Couldn't really beleive how beautiful it was this w/e. Coming from just north of Philly Pontimax and I were kinda iffy, but figured it was the last solid w/e up in the bowl.

We hiked up Friday morning, met our JP buddies at our leanteh and b-lined it up Left Gully. Perhaps it wasn't such a great idea, but my 1st turns on my new, used Stockli Stormrider II's were down the very top of LG. 3 sheepish, yet agressive turns into it and smiles erupted. If you get a chance, pick up some Stockli's! After that I was linking turns like a hot knife thru buddah!

Saturday we hiked up Right, Right Gully like Gollum over the wet moss and rock to the summit snowfields.......EPIC!!! 2-3" of flat, unmolested corn. Our buddy pulled out his slope meter 34-37 degrees most everywhere.

The Chute got us pretty good as we traversed and decened into the bowl. The shade has firmed it all up and above the funnel was real scratchy.

It's so suprising how stupid people can be. Dispite all warnings and what would seem to be common sense and after a large icefall down the headwall on Friday folks were still hiking up undermined Right Gully, Headwall, and most dangerous, The Sluice with that huge chunk of ice the has detached itself from the rock. I mean right up thier slide paths :envy: .

Picts and Video to follow......

Oooohhhh yeah....fat skis and fresh corn :D

Sunday a bunch of ice fell from beween the Chute and the Chute Center Option. People were screaming ICE ICE! and I looked up to see two large pieces bee lining for me. I scrambled left and dove at the last second (close, but a miss, then a snow chunk nailed my helmet, nearly soaking me down the collar) SkiLas was slightly less lucky and was grazed by a good sized chunk of ice...fortunately he was quick enough that it was just a touch and with hardly any force in the contact.

One guy ran a long way towards some rocks, got nailed, and still managed to not only hang onto his beer, but not any was spilled....wow! Fortunately he was okay.

Our other companion, SkiChick ducked behind a rock that was centerpunched by the biggest chunk...let me tell you there was quite a croud behind the rocks at that moment!

Believe it or not, my zip is 19446 as well  ....I live in Brookside Apt's off Cowpath and Broad across from Guisppies.

Ahh, it takes 8 hrs on the dot minimal stops. Most efficient way: 202>287>87>787>Rt 7(NY) turns into Rt 9 as you traverse aross S. VT and hop on 91 in Battleboro>93>302>16.

Next w/e could be ALMOST as good if it stays chilly, but not if it was as balmy as last w/e. The only thing I'd ski would be the snowfields and left gully. All requiring a good bit of traversing via bouldering.

Wow!

Really small world.
I live off of N. Wales Road past Pennbrook Middle School (Actually North Wales...People usually know Lansdale).

I anticipated about an 8 hour drive via that route.

Unfortunatley, I dont think I can get up until May 14 or 15...my friends arent too adventuresome, but thanks for Report. I figured if anything that the snowfields would be a go.

We'll see if anybody can make the drive.

We must have been right next to eachother! The guy with the  was a couple feet from me and my friend, and luckily we got away a little quicker than him! And all this action happened seconds after i said to my friend, "Wow, I am surprised there has been no ice fall today." I guess i jinxed it..
I think i might have seen you on the deck at Hojo's on the way back too, around 2-2:30 with the red shirt? Maybe too vague but worth a try. Great day overall!

better add another hour there my friend. From there you may want to try the NE Extension to like 78 or something.

I would add about 45 min to the 8 hour drive, unless you drive that much faster!

Think i might be heading up the 14th of may as well, hopefully from North Wales (19454). Look for a red acura integra.

Pray for some snow left.

I was up in the ravine on friday, I made the comment to you(if that was you) that you picked the heaviest skis to lug up to the ravine :D . I was on AK Launchers with Freerides.

And come on guys, 75ish underfoot is not a fat ski.

A fat ski was the guy from the 'Dacks on a pair of Iggy FFGs. 110mm underfoot. Thats more like it.
