View Full Version : May Day Video Music choice
Those who were there, and those who have been there on similar days...
I am trying to choose a song for the video I'm making - with the video clips of folks skiing, and probably a lot of the still pix as well.
So: Any specific songs anyone has in mind? Or a style? Maybe Regee? Maybe classical! Maybe opera (kidding).
The one I'm considering is "Hip Hug Her" by Booker T. & The MG's. It's on the Northern Exposure sound track - a kewl toon with no words.
I figure a bunch of you are gonna be in the video - why not see what toons you'd like.

Dis moosic (http://timefortuckerman.com/sounds/FrankieYankovicSkiingIsBelieving.mp3) :schlitz:
Actually I might use that one ;)
SkiCDave, a few problems with that song
a) It's polka
b) It mentions "Ski Lodge" - there's no lodge in my movie
c) It's polka
d) It mentions "Ski Lift" - there's no lift in my movie
e) It's polka
Pretty funny though! *WHERE* did you find that!

Way back I used Winmx or something and did various searches on 'skiing' 'snow' etc etc
If you want reggae I have a bunch of CD's if you want... or dare I mention Socca :)
Are you thinkin Marley, Wyclef, Cutty Ranks or something modern like Shaggy?
Didn't really have a regee artiste in mind. Was thinking of marley when I mentioned it, but eek-a-mouse would do fine too. Dunno if I want regee though.

I have about 10 Socca CD's I think.. plus a bunch I downloaded via Winmx and the like (shhh!).
If you want I'll give you a secret link to SkicDave's Socca Stash (for education use only please! ;) )
I play reggae and socca a lot prior to our yearly trip to the Caribbean for inspiration.
Ya mon! Kickback!
Help yourself to my movies...
And check out the band Clutch.. Song - The Great Outdoors...Always thought that would be a good video song...

I wont be in the video, but id like to suggest some songs...for soundtracks are almost as important as the film itself...almost.
"For whom the bell tolls" by Metallica for the falls section
"Groove Machine" by King's X...anyone?
or
"Frankenstein" by Edgar Winter...always a classic and no lyrics.

How about some Calypso!!! interspersed with some Dale guitar riffs
Tryinf to get the video in the can right now... freaking software crashed at least 10 times. DANG IT. But I'm pretty happy with it so far. Look forward to the may day video on seis de mayo... (seis is 6 right?)
I used ZERO of your song suggestions. Sorry.

Please tell everyone you know to never ever buy anything from Pinnacle software. I spent a lot of time compiling the video and pix from last weekend, and their software cost me at least 3 hrs of time involved in crashes and figuring out how to make it work... and in the end, it is NOT working. I try to render the movie and it hangs... delete the scene it hangs on and it hangs on the next scene. I need one of the pinnacle devleopers here so I may cuff him about the head.
M@
Arg ^ 10 power. I put together what I think is a very nice edit on the video and pix - and the pinnacle software refuses to render it. They must pay... holy crap - it's almost 2am...
As a software developer I don't know how to feel about this... I poured some major creativity into this effort and now the software is preventing me from realizing the fruits...
In a word: D'oh

Hmmm... must be running windows....
:rantgraemlin:
Best to:
- upgrade your puter to a Dell :p
- reinstall o/s
- add more memory
- reboot several times
- repeat until your successful
Videowave 5 seems to work well for me. Mind you, you'll want lots of memory (I'd say 512MB min) and a fast dedicated drive. I'm near about ready to replace my 2G /512MB Dell with something fast enough to slug it out with all the XP bloatware we are forced to us. Its pitaful compared to the performance of the same machine running unix!

Editing video: Get a mac and Final cut pro. Hate to say it as I'm a Windows guy, but it's true.
After soem later night swearing, I awoke with a clearer head and found the solution to my problem on the pinnacle support site. One silly little corrupted frame of video... I trimmed it out and everything works fine now.
So: I just need to get approval for publishing from some of the Stars of the film and I'll post it for you all to enjoy.
The size is 36.7Meg - is that too big? I know the 100+meg version of the april show was WAY too big, but how are people about downloading a 36Meg video file? I could probably make it smaller - but it starts to loose quality fast if I go too far.

Shoot for the moon. Personally, I like the highest-res possible, though I'm spoiled with a fast connection.

M@, big files are cool...hehehe.
Can you make this a seed and BT it? That way we can all enjoy sharing each other's bandwidth and make for some killer download speeds!!!

I'd do it in a second if I thought more then 3 people would download it - but seeing as I already have it, it would be just you, DMC and Justin I think.
We'll get everyone here all learned up on torrents this year, so next season the stuff will be screaming down to the masses.
