so...votes for :chicken: , do they indicate can't commit?

M@

I voted chicken - and it kinda means I can't commit/Can't spend a vacation day on it. My vacation days aren't really mine anymore with the 2 kids. I do get a couple "My" vacation days, but I already spent most of them on ski trips, and need to save the rest for ski trips. It's one of the few things I do that the family can't really enjoy with me... YET.

Actually - I think I'm gonna be taking Anna skiing a bunch of times this year. INstead of doing the lesson thing, I'm just taking her. I think the lessons for kids that age for parents who don't know how to ski... seeing as I do, I can teach her myself at this point. After I get her turning I'm sure she'll reach a level where lessons will be good for her again. (And a great time for daddy to go into the trees)

I never did the lesson thing. I have vivid memorys of skiing between my fathers legs (and falling  ) poor guy. It's reat to start 'em young. After a while moving/walking/ and simply getting around on skis really just becomes second nature...plus little kids look funny when they ski :p

I might go swimming tonight ... in the icy North Atlantic ... but given the weather, I doubt anyone will join me.

Slightly on topic, it's been a tough summer for surfing. Summer always sucks worst (flattest), but this one has been cold to boot.

Funilly enough, the water at Meat Cove on the northern tip of Cape Bretton is reasonably warm...love that Gulf Stream!

Make the hike in the Adirondacks and we're in! Kate and I just got back from the ADK, and will be returning on Friday as well as twice in August, and probably labour day weekend and Canuck Tnx Give weekend.

Actually here I am on July 11th doing a heel click on the shores of Upper Saranac Lake with what we think was Whiteface in the background. The quick way up!...

Unfortunately the TMC :teardrop: isn't too adapted to the White's due to all those brutel 'hills'.

Daks trip!

I'll be up there Aug13-15 as well.

Ski&Ride, where in Wilmington you staying? My House is in Jay, but actually closer to wilmington than the actual town of Jay. Maybe a 5min drive to Wilmington, give or take.

I agree w/ RR, ditch the ropes and lets take a walk through the woods! Maybe we can get Elwood to take the ferry over from Burlington and hike too. Or anyone else for that matter.

Whiteface is one of my favorites. Especially if it is really muddy and there are alot of tourists up top in khakis and sandals. Not that the tourists would get muddy, but WE will and the looks on there faces are priceless. Especially when you get near them. HA hA hA :D

Lets go hike.

I'm up for ditching the ropes for a day if we get a group hike going! And it's not too far a drive from Burlington, for the VT folks.

Affix, I don't have the actual addy yet, but I know it's "at the foot of spectacular Whiteface Mountain, amid the high peaks of the Adirondacks and just 10 miles from Lake Placid"...according to the house rental website. I can PM you (& RR??) where I'll be, once I get more details.

Good to hear!
A hike it is!
Let me know when the time gets closer where your gonna be. There are alot of houses along that stretch of 86, if thats where it is. Id assume so, but whiteface is a huge mountain and i guess it could be ANYWHERE. Im around 10-15min from whiteface give or take.

Anyway, we should get a bunch of T4Ters. Maybe we could do one of those "Roll Call" thingies?

Ispoiler...you are from jersey right? I live outside Philly. If you are up for it, you could come up and crash at my house. Anyone else, the offer stands for you too.

Lets all not forget now!

ski&ride,

a bit off topic, but what are you climbing in the daks? i was trying to convince a friend to try wallface, though i think an august timeframe may be a bit hot on the wall. from what i've read, this is also a pretty involved climb, any knowledge?

is the whiteface hike a lock 13-15th everyone/anyone?

To be honest, I don't know the name of where we climbed last year, but I imagine we'll go there again. It was about a 3/4 mike hike in. It's only about 100', but great for me, since I don't do it much. I'll email my friend Steve to ask where we were. He's originally from NY, & knows more technical places to climb too. This is where we were last year:

And my attempt: (my hair's pulled back but yes, I'm a chick. :) )

I think Whiteface is a pretty good possibility at this point, so make a mental note of it! :)

Mrs RR is still recovering from her severe sprain and may look for alternate activities, probably cultural. That leaves yours truly looking to hitch a ride. Will share ga$ and can take a shift or two of the driving.

I may be able to help you out there. I'm just waiting to find out if my copilot is getting Friday Aug. 13 off from work, so we can plan a date / time of departure. What would your schedule be like? Could you make it up to Hudson, NH?

Sorry to hear about the Mrs's strain.

p.s. Will be travelling w/ german shepard as well, but plenty of room for all.

Hudson...sure. There use to be a nice bike race there. Competed a few times.

I'm on Vacay as of Noon today and will be incommunicado until Saturday PM Jul31. Between now and then:

I'll be climbing out of the Penacook Shelter probably through Tuesday. After that I'll be tramping about the Tripyramids, Mt. Kancamaugus and working some climbs on East Osceola. Harmonica Bules and maybe some Jazz will give away my position.

RR,

I'll PM you with my cell #. I'll be away July 30-Aug 1 in N. Conway. Will be hiking too. Also watching the tail end of my friend's "sea to summit" race: It starts in Portsmouth, he canoes (or kayaks?) to Maine, bikes to Pinkham Notch, hikes / runs up to the summit! He trains like a fiend.
