Ok...originally i was just trying to be funny.
Then i realized i wasnt and thought about a recommended beer/drinks list )sponging off Ispoiler's Read list).
So many of us talk about beer, etc., so why not right?
Beer: Victory Hop Devil...name says it all...from Downingtown PA
Scotch: Mcllelands(sp?)...nice price, great taste...recommend the Islay.
Wine: Yellow Tail....Austrailian.....good Merlot.
Its friday morning and im already thinking about booze....shake head
Coosing a favorite, that's cruel! Nevertheless these are my standing choices. Everything else would be a consolation.
Beer: Long Trail Brewery, Double Bag
Whiskey: Aberfeldy Distillery, Aberfeldy Single malt, 14 years. Cropped to a great extent on the clan holdings.
Wine: Coturri (formerly Coturri & Sons), Chauvet Zin, '75. Nearly impossible to find and worth over 1K a bottle to the serious folk. All the Chuvet holdings zins are the finest in the world and Coturri has them all. All huge and complex, must lay down at least 5 years and begins to get rewarding after 10 years.
I will list Grappa and Tequila seperately

Fave Wine: I have been enjoying the Yellow Tail Shiraz as of late...as Dave said, the Merlot they make is quite tasty too... I really love these Aussie wines!

Tried a new (for us) Korean restaurant in Sommerville a couple of days ago and tried some Korean wine, with 10 herbs and spices added (or something like that. Different spices than KFC). Must say, it made a very nice accompanyment to the meal. Cheap, too! :)

It's good, but I would never go as far as to say it's the best beer of all time. I can guarantee that NOBODY on this board has had EVERY beer in the world. If you gentlemen (and I use that term loosely...yuk yuk yuk) want to use a statement like "best beer of all time" please include an IMO after that statement. Thank you.

Trick is to take an Advil and drink water before drinking huge amounts.. Then take and Advil before you hit he hay...
I was drinking a local brew last night... Keegan Ales from Kingston NY...
They have a niiice stout called "Mothers Milk"

Pretty much do three drinks these days...
Beer: Geary's "Autumn", long Trail - "hit the trail", Gritty Mcduffs - "Christmas" and Newcastle are a few that come to mind - Really love full bodied English beer.
Liquor: 99.99999% of the time it's:
Gin & Tonic - Bombay if i can afford it.
Whiskey (usually with ginger ale) if not straight ;). - Again i prefer Crown if i can afford it. not a big scotch fan.
Wine: Don't drink whites except for an occasional Pino. I really just don't like 'em. I like reds quite a bit, but am rather uneducated. I do however, like Yellow tail shiraz/ merlot quite a bit.

Nice list. Havent had Honey brown in a while.
I don't drink that often, like maybe 1-2 /month. But when I go out DRINKING, it can potentially be much! ;)
I used to drink frequently in college, it was easier for me then to live on no sleep and alcohol. Now my workout/practice regimen requires me to behave better & get more sleep.
Also, I can curb gettin sick / hungover with water, advil, and I think being athletic helps too??? Eating food is good also. When I get home, I drink a ton of water, wake up a few hours later and get rid of a lot of liquids! I feel pretty good the next day!

Vodka - am I the only one with a taste for vodka? I like it mixed drink with most anything or in shots (straight up or mixed) - as long as its some decent vodka! During ski season, my drink of choice is Vodka and RedBull - during summer, a 007 (oj,orange flavd vodka and 7up) is a good choice.
otherwise, there is a great Cabernet - Ecchevaria (?sp) that is amazing, and I love cheap pinot grigio - Cavit is the best and comes in the huge bottle for only 12 bucks. But for champagne - its only the good stuff - Pierre Jouet in the floral bottle (fleur de lis?) - that is heavenly - well worth the mortgage you have to take out on your house to buy it!
mmm...almost time to hit the bar for a happy hour beverage!

I've avoided this thread perchance that I may go find a good drink. Alas! I have!
Anyways, for some reason, I'm not surprised how many posts this thread accumulated in such a short time.... I think people enjoy a good beverage.
My favorites are Vodka and rum and then tequila... not necessarily in that order. That depends upon the activity at hand and the locale.
Wine is always on my dinner table be it red or white and the occasional zin.
I'm opting not to divulge my specific favorites at this time.... They change as the seasons do.

My preventative medicine is to suck back 6 to 12 raw oysters (malpeques if you can get em).
I love oysters.
In Europe, the Cancale oyster is considered the best. Had Cancales in Cancale in June this year. Then, had Malpeques in Malpeques, PEI in July. Malpeques are the best.
Here's my wife and twin grandaughters chowing down on seafood in Cancale:
http://timefortuckerman.com/photopost/data/500/1500Cancale_in_Cancale.jpg
Here's the wife again chowing down on Malpeques and PEI mussels on the island. This time number one granddaughter had just finished her half dozen oysters and was sharing the steamers with Gram:
http://timefortuckerman.com/photopost/data/500/1500Malpeque_and_PEI_Mussels-med.jpg
That beer beside my plate is a little light. Guiness is my first call beer, although anejo tequila is my drink. Hmm ... tequila oyster shots at the top of the gondola at Squaw ... there, that got us back on topic and ties to snow sports too.
(Incidentally, someone recently referred to oyster shots as "slammers." That is incorrect. A slammer is a shot of tequila mixed with a lemon-lime soda. The drink is slammed down onto a hard surface so the soda fizzes like crazy and then chugged.)

Once again you guys have some sorta pulse on me - tonight my sister-in-law took us out to "Chicks Oyster Bar" Virginia Beach, and on the menu was an item called a "Shooter." So I got two. It was a half beer with an oyster and ****tail sauce in it. I liked it quite a bit. First oyster I'd had in a couple years at least!

My friend lives in Stanley Bridge PEI....none too far a stagger from Malpeque Bay and his friend the oyster farmer. His wife does a lot of kid sitting for them. Long and short is when we go visit there is often a "Bakers" Peck of oysters in a cooler that make the trip home with us. The last peck we had was well over 75 oysters that we took into the wilds of Quebec with us.

Skip & Go Naked's.
Gallon of Lemonade.
1 light beer (for carbonation and flava)
Varying amounts of Vodka (add as little or as much as you like)
Mix a bunch up for parties.
Watch out. Done right, they will end you up puking on your freinds stereo wearing nothing but a sock and a crooked smile.

i think this thread should have been titled "who doesn't like to drink"...it would have ended right there instead of this marathon
i also think t4t should be renamed "time for tanquerays"...sheesh
anyway, as long as you can't beat em, my list would have to include:
hops:
samuel smith oatmeal stout
kinmount willie o.s.
heart of darkness
i like the oatmeal stouts...anybody tried the last one, its magic hat's o.s.?
grains:
belvedere, especially in vodka gimlets straight up
grapes:
steep-anything barolo especially '95's - gaja reserve if you don't mind a little extra cash
cheap-los vascos reserve '98 or '99 cabernet - a good (maybe to peppery) chilean; the reserves are $5-8 more, but the bottles aren't usually more than $14-20 total and taste better than many $40-80 cabs IMO.
cheers - literally
Cheap red with plenty to offer: Egri Bikaver It's hungarian and available at lots of places, esp. Trader Joe's. I have been drinking it since 1979.
EB is made in the town (Eger) where the Mongol hordes encamped ready to attack and the townspeople drank every bit of the wine that was stored in the town just to prevent the horde from getting any.
Legend has it they awoke with such murderous hangovers that they flayed the Mongols something awful, thus stopping the march to Iberia

well, after some cheap red wine hangovers, i've certainly contemplated murder...mostly my own :D
always appreciate good cheap wine suggestions. a friend suggested one that i thought was ok, but he swears by from patagonia: postcards from the end of the earth - look for the spanish translation on the label though. if anyone's interested, i'll get the proper label from him.

You can extract the alcohol in sterno by squeezing it out through cloth. It is a cumulative poison, and tastes terrible, but it will get you drunk.

Absinthe, mmmm, yummy. But don't go cheep, buy the good stuff, at least 10 thujones, there is one that has 100 thujones and is considered the "real" thing, plenty of wormwood used - it'll make you loopy.
Yes, absinthe is an inebriating pipeful -
its psychoactive thujones seem to bind to the same receptor as THC.
Beer, too many to pick one, recently excited about Acme IPA and NorthCoast Red Seal Ale
Single Malt, Lagavullin, but like Affix said the McLelland Islay is a GREAT value, but don't even bother to try their lowland.

Try it for yourself if you want to, but in a dbl blind test against 2 other mediocre lowlands (after we decided, "it can't be as poor as we thought, their Islay is so good"), my Dad and I rated it, "by a wide margin, the least interesting, with a certain unkind sharpness" and we are talking against already mediocre-at-best lowlands. Their highland is OK, but we tend to think its worth the extra $5-15 for a 12yr old. I haven't tried their Speyside, assuming they have one.

The Aroostook Valley Golf Club, near Fort Fairfield, Me. Was built during prohibition. The Pro Shop, Parking Lot and part of the Club house is in the US. The Bar and Golf Course was in Canada. So technically you didn't have to cross the border to get booze. You just went golfing.

Yeah they still golf in Canada. Must have been too much work to move it back across the border. Surprising though it's turns cold as soon as you cross the border I mean parking lot. /end sarcasim
Seriously though when I was kid we lived in Perth Andover and my dad was a member there. I went to play golf with him, we have to cross through customs to cross into the States and drive along a road that danced back and forth across the border to eventually park in the US and walk back into Canada to play golf. If I remember correctly the Canadian Government stopped using the customs building and it was sold and moved to a farm. The US side kept their guard post operating for a year or so during daylight hours but not at night. One night it burned down and they didn't rebuild. I guess both sides got bored of seeing the same golfers and farmers everyday and it wasn't worth the hassle. What I did find as funny was here is a paved road crossing the border with not a soul policing it. Rumor was back then that RCMP kept an eye on vehicles with US plates traveling the road in Canada on the Troopers kept an eye on Canadian Vehicles travelling the road in the US. I remember we used to smuggle stuff back across the border and would just stop and play a round of golf in case the State Troopers were watching us and then continue on our merry way. I wonder what that crossing is like now since 9/11. I should ask my old man about that. He still plays there from time to time.

Prohibition was repealed in 1933. Stock car racing grew up with good ole boys hauling white lightning out of the hills. T'wren't prohibition--t'was whiskey tax. Still is for that matter.
I laid up one stormy night in East Tennesse. No bar in town. The waitress said "t'ween the Baptist ministers and the moonshiners, this town'll never vote legal." Then, she told which auto repair shop to go to.
