While I am not a fan of taking Burton gear in to the bc, I might have to make an exception for this portable bar stool!! You can plug and Ipod into the Aux input line!!

The new one is nice because of the speakers, but it doesn't have the 420 kit with it anymore. What did Jake turn square?

You can still get them, but the Liquid Lounger used to come with one. How can you have a party without a 420 kit?

I totally dissagree...

My Burton AK Full-Zip pants are pretty sweet... I use them all the time on hikes... Had them at Tucks last year...
Waterproof... Full vents... good pockets... tough fabric...

My Burton mittens are pretty sweet too... Use them in the BC in conjuntion with various liner gloves...

I have some burton socks - they are totally BC ready. I also have a poly-pro tshirt with a burton logo that is pretty good for BC.

My burton jacket is too thick for BC though - I wouldn't bring it out back.

I have Burtons Shield pants and Jacket, there are the heaviest items its in my pack other then my board. The DWR coating lasted about a month so the pants and jacket easily became a sponge. I tried the recommended soap and the DWR renewal and they would shed water for a ride. On top of that the claimed breathablitly was non existent. at the end of the season last year I picked up the lightest AK jacket I could find and it was a little better. For the retail price of these items, there are far better choices for BC use that are easier to pack and weigh half as much.

DMC
10-06-2004, 01:18 PM
Oh - you pay retail... Nevermind..

I still think Burton makes some good stuff... Not going to diss an entire product line base upon a couple bad items...

But like I've said before - I don't have a lot of BC experince compared to lots of you guys so - I really can't say much more...

Any real skier knows that there would be no snowboarding without the skis..I think they call them SKI resorts and not riding resorts for a reason. It all started with us sliding down hills on 2 boards.

I have no problem at all with snowboarders at all, bu I do super enjoy busting their chops, because most of the time I get EXACTLY the reaction i got, and thats what makes it funny to me.

Again No offense meant.

Maybe it's comments like this that keep my skin thin - just for you and maybe a couple others here that tend to sway on the side of dissing snowboarding......
And by the way - I was a "REAL SKIER" for well over a decade before I became a snowboarder in 1988...

im sure you were and im also sure you're very adept at both, I wasnt ever referring to your skills or choice of riding style. Just making a little contreversy. I don't know why you snowboarders take such offense to the needling. we can all share the mountian. It seems to be quite a telling fact that its an across the board feeling amongst snowboarders when it comes to skiers dissing them. All of you get all angry like any of us are really serious. I wonder why that is? Ask yourself.

Well son - sit down and let me tell you about the old days...
When I first started riding lots of areas did not allow snowboarding... And ones that did tended to block our access to some trails...
We fought long and hard to establish the sport.. And open closed mountains and trails... And I still fight the fight...
If you respect snowboarders on an idividual basis then I'm cool with that... But I will defend the sport... I vowed to do that a long time ago... And until we have access to everything I will continue this fight...

I believe that ALL of the mountain should be shared by everyone!!! No matter what your riding!!! I do not exlude anyone from anything...
Thats why i like Tucks so much... It's a great equalizer... Doesnt matter what you on - all that matters is your skills...

Just a warning... I won't back down... No matter who I pss off...

now I ain't no skier but would the development of new shaped skis and the resulting style and "rebirth" of skiing have come around if not for snowboarding?

I am with DMC,I am proud of my sport and I take every oppertunity to ride lifts with people who are obviously anti-snowboarding. 9 times out of 10 that person gets off the chair thinking that snowboarding and snowboards might not be that bad.

I agree that the mountian should be shared by everyone, and that is one of the real reason I take some offense to the snowboarding sport, because it wasn't until recently that skier were given access to "snowboard parks" and there were trails at many resorts that STOPPED allowing skiers becuase they were "SNOWBOARD" trails. the mountians were originally deisgned for skiing why restrict the skier? Man that boiled my blood

Well thankfully now that has all passed and we share the mountians.

Again I just like creating a little tension, I never meant to "diss" the sport. Its kinda cool and my buddies rip in the pow, but I just never took a liking, just preference.

RIDE HARD....

I just amazes me that to this day... In a new millinium.... People STILL tend to diss boarders... With tired old reasons that after visiting MRG last year I realized were pretty much false... the same stuff happens there thats blamed on riders...

Bannick!!! Thanks for fighting the good fight... In the future people will look back and give us props for evening out the sliding playing field...

This hullaballoo about us vs them and vice versa cracks me up..... I think it's just ppl letting their daily work life stress spill over into FUN activities.

I'm no boarder by anymeans but I did get to be a pioneer test 'rider' for Burton back in the early 80's.... Namely and old friend told me to try this sliding contraption and see how I like it. I did like it but the bindings sucked. I got to poach sweet spots on the sides of Rte 89 on a board until the State Police decided to advise me not to do it.... mainly because seeing tracks would encourage others and somebody might get hurt.

Never been on a board since. Never had any desire to try again either.http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/cool-dog.gif

Call it what you want - But it exists.
It exists as an underlying predudice.. That manifests itself with skiers "just joking"...

To me it's not that funny... Because I'm on the excluded side... Excluded from going where I want to ride... For reasons I find stupid! The only real reason is predudice...

In defense of at least one resort ALTA, I don't think you'd even like snowboarding there...you'd be doing quite a bit of hiking out of some of those bowls.

I don't think all the "restrictions" are based on predjiduce, I think some are based on geography and terrain.

I still find it quite telling that you get soo worked up about a little good natured ribbing....dont you think football players knock baseball players? I mean cmon......or skateboarders knock rollerbalders? Its the nature of the beast, one came before the other (in the case of skiing/snowboaroarding and skateboarding/rollerlading) there will always be contreversy amongst the "diehards". I dont think you should take it all so literally though IMO...

I'm a skier, but I gotta side with DMC here. I think it is stupid to crack jokes about it, because that is what creates the us v. them mentality. I mean what is funny about snowboarding? And why would snowboarders be restricted from riding where they want? It makes no sense. We abolished the "Jim Crow Laws" for a reason. I actually prefer to ski with snowboarders, because snowboarders tend to think and ride like me...

There is a very fine line between 'Good natured ribbing' and prejudism. Don't you think some white people knock black people? or Catholics knocking Jewish people? The skier/snowboarder thing may not be based on fundamental things like race and religion, but it is still the same concept. Sorry huck, but D has a right to be pissed.

You've brought it to a whole other level here now....this is NOTHING like predijudce that blacks or jews for that matter have been subjected to. This is a sport we're talking about. I've been joked on by snowbaorders, but who really cares its all a matter of personal preference you snowboard, I ski, thats that....if ya can't take some jokes then i'll just remember not to joke with you. I also dont think he has a right to be pissed...I didn't put a smiley on the post, but i did certianly say HA HA HA in the post itself, to me that leaned towards "JOKING" not seriousness. There is NOTHING serious about the snowboarder/skier conterversy IMO its all about both sides having fun doing what they enjoy. If a resort wants to ban one or the other that's their choice. You want a resort that doesnt make those rules BUY ONE, but to take offense to a simple commment is just being bitter....and thats EXACTLY how it comes across to me.. AGAIN I go back to ....THEY ARE SKI resorts......SKI being the important word, but i'll keep up with this debate til i'm blue in the face...I LOVE arguing.

You've made your point - you've revealed your true colors to me.....
But Dave is lurking ready to give me a slap on the wrist - so I back down... And await the moment I can either snowboard, alpine or tele once again... With people who don't support segregating me from where I want to go...

I disagree with you... I think it is quite similar...It is fundamentally prejudism. The definition of the word doesn't change because of the characteristic you are applying it to.

prejudice: an irrational attitude of hostility directed against an individual, a group, a race, or their supposed characteristics

And even if you are using it in humor, some people are not going to think the prejudicial humor is funny, and you are going to offend somebody. Some people cannot take jokes (especially when they revolve around prejudism), and you can't fault them for that.

Twin tipped skis came about by some skier types that wanted to have as much fun as snowboarders were having. At least that is what the documentary I saw told me. I think it was some sort of salomon video. It is hard for me not to see the progression from snowboard shapes to parabolics either.....but then snowboarders apparently invented moguls and edges because the bigges argument I hear after "they are always in the way" is they make moguls and scrape all the snow off the slopes.

I have been takin out by all types of snow types getting off the lifts even a winter camper with a pack full of tent and pot(S). However I have ONLY been taken out by skiers on the slopes. Does this things make me want to ban skiers from the slopes? No. But knowing that there are places that I am not allowed to ride makes me want to ride there, traverses, hiking or not. This whole discussion is not new yes but it does point out that this us vs them mentallity is still going strong.

I will ride with anyone, anywhere (well almost anywhere) anyhow they want. For me it is about the snow but don't get pissed at snowboarders for having board parks that were exclusive when it took such a fight for snowboarders to even be on the slopes to begin with.

I'm with RR on this thread - YAWNNNNNNN, waiting for snow, must talk about about something, waiting for snow.....patience.

Now what I want to know is how *do* you do that nesty quotes-within-quotes thang?

Steve

Easy...
{QUOTE=RR}{QUOTE=RR}{QUOTE=RR}
Less Filling{/QUOTE}
Tastes Great{/QUOTE}
Less Filling{/QUOTE}
Tastes Great

just replace the curly brackets with square brackets and you are off to the races...you set up any number of starts in the first line and then have a phrase and a close followed by more until the close count equals the start count.

I was thinking of writing a generator for point-counterpoint phrasing. You know, set the count, Phrase 1 and Phrase two and let it write the text for me...if you ever saw me type you would know why

I was kinda teasing again about getting off lifts, i always seem to get the middle and I always feel like someones in my way.

As far as getting hit by riders...I've been hit by both, and gee guess where? KMART. Thankfully none have been bad, but accidents will happen..

MattMy old dad flattened the wife of his Senator on the Lift Line at Stowe back in the early 60's...and he was a ski-instructor. Life goes on man, life goes on.

I like to give my slidy brothers and sisters all the room they need....mostly because of all the room I need...I'm such a klutz! Part of the reason I'll stay off the snowboards and teleboards...like I have trouble enough just skiing...

It's the first week of October, do you know where your tune up kit is?

Burton brings the bar to the BC has turned into a Bar Fight....Sad.

Huck - learn not to sound pompus in your "joking posts"

D - I know where you're coming from but ease up man. The guys did attempt to say sorry

Huck - stop feeding the fire after you say sorry doesn't make you sound very sincere

RR - Taste like crap, not drinking it.....unless of course your buying ;)

B - Yup the Twin Tip was invented by a bunch of Canadians (JP Auclair, JF Cusson, Vinnie Dorion and Mike Douglas) that got tired of watching snowboarders in the snowboard park and wanted to join in on the fun. And the shaped ski and carving had to have come from Snowboarding. Snowboarders at a Ski Resort came from Skiing as did much of the technology on early boards. All I care is that both sports keep takeing concepts from each other and keep progressing

Let's all 420 and go ride be that on Board, boards, tele, nordic, or even blades (if you must) ;)

Just my .02 (CAD)

Progression is cool. As long as attitudes progress as well. Nuff said.
The only thing I ask from skiers is to not plant a pole in front of me when getting off a lift. Poles do break...and sometimes I break em. Not out of malice or anything just cuz I had no where to go.

The thing I ask of everyone on a lift is to think...ride it out and don't make a left turn from the right lane and vice versa. Cept of course at Baker....it is hard to stick to rules when death is involved. I have never stacked harder off a lift then at Baker......

I don't think I'll be south of the border until our annual Sugarloaf/USA Trip on the US Thanksgiving. Don't know if I'll day trip down further south or not. Maybe as far as NH but I'm not holding my breath. It's pretty busy around here these days.

Note the wink. I usually get out once or twice a year on blades when I'm board (get it). Blades don't sit very high in my eyes. I've treated way too many Tib-Fib spiral fractures on them. Mostly young kids so I do hold a grudge against them. But then again it's fun to just go out and giver on 'em on a slow night.

My sister snowblades. I make fun of her, but in reality im just happy she likes to slide on snow. Its also nice cause she and i can spend some time together....even if its JUST at a resort.....Blades+bc= NO FUN.

DUUUUUUUUUUUDE! AWSUM!

My favorite cut-off experience off the lift was at Okemo. One of those 8 year old tadpoles cut across me from the middle seat and I took a quick sitz to avoid leaving a board-track across his measly pelt.

Just when I was ready to get going again I realized that my wrist felt a little funny. Turns out my left ABS wrist-guard was broken in half from the fall; lower half was dangling from the velcro stays (my wrist was fine :) )Showed it to my kids and they didn't feel so stupid wearing the wrist protection (for a little while anyway).

Moral of the story is protect yourself from children of all ages and replace protective gear when broken. My new wrist guards work fine too.
