Hey D,
You been to Fernie. I need a bit of info. We may have a friends condo to stay in this winter. What is it like? I know there is some hiking. What about lifts, T-bars etc.
We would be drivin up from Spokane sometime in Feb.
Thanks
B
Fernie rocks... Great snow tons of steeps - gnarly climbs - nice hikes...
Fernie Trip PIX 2001 (http://www.powderhound.org/cgi/imgtool.cgi?year=2001&page=album&name=fernie2001_*&type=jpg&offset=1&bgcolor=white&title=)
When last I was at Fernie we spent a lot of time in whats called the Fish Bowl (http://www.powderhound.org/cgi/imgtool.cgi?year=2001&page=normal&name=fernie2001_4-5-01_FishBowl_Flynn_1&type=jpg)... It's a gated OB area... Pretty sweet.. you can ride a traverse back to the lifts...
I love the the Saddle Chute area... Great chutes... Corner Pocket was a little climb and really steep... Spent a lot of time messin around there...
Traverse over to an area called the Easter Bowl... Out of the way.. Holds snow really well...
Climb up through the rock band in the Currie Bowl you'll see the climbing line... Great steep run into a huge open bowl... :)
I think some lifts have been updated since I was there... There is a J-Bar surface lift at the top wich gets you into some sweet powder...
The midstation hangout is a place called the bears den... We ate BBQ'd smokeys there every day... good stuff...
Kelseys is the bar at the base - we got hammered there every night with all the Kiwi's...
I'd go back in a second!!!!
I forgot...
Check this guys website out... It's invaluable...

If anyone needs encouragement to book a trip to Fernie, I have some awesome video in my libary of our bunch skiing Fernie in about 4 feet of fresh powder. Best day of powder I've ever had!

Sweet....thanks for the info and links. We need to befriend a couple of skiers for the haul back T. Never ridden a meat hook (j-bar) on a board. How the hell does that work?
Just kinda hook it behind your but and let it push you up the track...
It's pretty easy...

HiRes shot - you can see snowboarders on the Meathook...

seems a little more humain than a steep T-Bar. I think Jess could handle that.
You have gotten me fired up. Hope this condo deal works out....
