Are you feeling that release? That "It's here... it's finally here" release? I am.
M@
It's wierd... It was more of a quiet kinda reflecting moment...
I was by myself... It was a sunny afternoon... No noise except wind...
I just kept thinking about how in two days the place is going to be jammed and noisey...

Ahhh the beauty of the east coast ski scene...shame isn't it? Wish I could afford to buy my own mtn, set up a rope tow with an old pickup and some pulleys..DONE.

Not really...
Normally - Hunter is not as crowed as everyone makes it out to be... I spend most days skiing on and off the Y or Z lifts...
Opening day - is a madhouse.. It's the closest skiing to NYC thats open... Until Mountain Creek and the Pocono areas start to open it's more crowded then mid-season...

I always found those lifts to be pretty open too. Some weekends though..OOOFAH.They should have a test before they let you buy a ticket..or at least sell "restricted" tickets. That way to people that haven't reached a certian level don't get "in the way".
IMHO
Matt
It doesnt take long for beginners to figure out that there are places at Hunter that they should NEVER go to...
Back in the day - they DID have a ski off for everyone that got off a bus...
You can buy a ticket at Hunter thats only good for Hunter One (Beginner area)...

I think it is either Stratton or Mt. Snow that makes you take a test or watch a video to get a pass into one of their super huge parks....keepin beginnners and their yuppie parents out.......Ispoiler would know which one.

It's Stratton aka disney land, by far my favorate place to ride. Thier border X course is so much fun and I do love the gaint hits in the park. I avoid huntah until MC opens, I ussually start to ride there in dec.

The best are the cigarette in mouth, jeans wearing (soaked in butt), NYY cap backwards, NY Giants jacket sporting yahoos coming down the belt parkway. Seems to be a collection area. I saw one smack into a fence one time..... :envy: Then once my buddy was ripping some other fenced run up and some yahoo cut in front and he got the fence..... :envy:  .
Yeah, the hill aint no joke. I give the front credit for learning me to bump ski. It's a shame beside BP there aren't really any typical cruisers from the top, certianly no beginner ways down :skierscared: . I love Huntah West, noda soul, but it gets slippy! Never have been with fresh, must be awesome. I'm guessing thats where some primo trees are.
Remember Ron's Place? Word is it burnt down?? We used to stay there in High School.
Hunter is not a good place for an intermediate.. It's a beginer and expert area..
Most experts I talk to really enjoy it.. If someone says they don't like it I always assume they are not expert terrain skiers...
Anybody I know would NEVER get on the Belt Pkwy... When the lifts first open - you can cruise Hellgate>Broadway>Kennedy without worrying about people..
As soon as the West Side opens - we all head over there.. And cruise Clairs and Purna.. Westway if it's open...
Another good cruiser is Wayout...
The starter Jacket set really isnt a problem... To me at least..

Many of those were always closed when I would typically go round Turkey day for warm up laps before VT, espically West. It is pretty much an experts hill. The top is just all cliffed up. No pun intended. I'm sure I'll be up a few X this season. I'd love to see it all opened up.
