View Full Version : Was any one at the Loaf on Sunday 12/14?
I tried the radio a lot, hurt my back* but as I had to take it easy, that smoothed me out. Good conditions lots of places, but thin cover was the rule on the newly opened terrain.

Nope, the River... much more open terrain, decent snow cdx: 4" of new from Friday night that got rained on, so there was a thin breakable crust. This apparently kept people on piste Saturday, because on Sunday, most of the trail margins and off-trail bits were untracked. Offtrail was slow-going and turning was pointless, but if you weighted your skis right you could make figure-11s. On-trail, conditions were probably the best yet of the year for a weekend; once the breakable crust was punched through, there was unconsolidated small-grain snow (heavy sugar) which was a lot of fun.

El-B, did you have a radio? I tried you several times Sunday at the River and left mine on all day. Had a great day too!

Nope, I'm generally radioless. I do have two FRS radios without the subchannels, so I can sometimes hear folks hailing me but they don't hear my replies unless they're on subchannel 0. We did look for people matching your description...
We are now coming into the one ski-less weekend in our season (inlaws trip -- they're in UT but we're meeting in NY, doh) but will follow the snow next week.
