This reminded me that a friend of mine was on Mt Washington on 911.. I think he used a compass though... Wouldnt it suck if you depended on GPS and suddenly it was gone?!?!?!

WASHINGTON - President Bush (news - web sites) has ordered plans for temporarily disabling the U.S. network of global positioning satellites during a national crisis to prevent terrorists from using the navigational technology, the White House said Wednesday.
Any shutdown of the network inside the United States would come under only the most remarkable circumstances, said a Bush administration official who spoke to a small group of reporters at the White House on condition of anonymity.

When readiding the title of the Thread from the main forum screen the title was
"News: Bush prepares for Possible"
I thought it was an article about :sugarbush: preparing for massive amounts of snow next week..... :doh:

The (republican-controlled) media is reporting news such as this to divert away attention from real facts, such as THIS (http://www.boston.com/dailynews/351/wash/National_Guard_chief_says_unit:.shtml) . Our military needs more protection / safer equipment out there.
It was the same during the election. Whever something negative came out about the pres., it was "Terror ! Terror! Will Robinson!". Terrorists may use this, or may target that (duh!) , and please divert your attention away from Haliburton and oil profits and watch out for the new terrorist target of the week... :doh:

On a more serious note. I can see why they would want to shut off GPS. A bunch of terrorists could be somewhere where they would need GPS, maybe some big population center in the middle of the Adirondacks. They'd be lost if you shut it off!
This is stupid, Any terrorist would know where his target is, Add on top of that it will be something easy to find....it is just the responders that wouold need the GPS to find a location after the fact....
Yeah - better shut off the GPS, the terroists might use it. Oh yeah, better shut off the electricity too, cuase they might use that. And while we're at it we better nuke the atmosphere and keep any sunlight from reaching the planet, becuase the terroists might use that to do any number of things.

Try to get to NYC from Jersey by using GPS, you will end up in a bad section of Newark and will get jacked while parked figuring aout where you are. How about taking down all the signs that give directions and milage to locations of interest. Better yet, stop all the double decker tour buses that run through Timesquare, terrioriest migth be getting some beta while taking in the sites.
On a side note, I miss the sleazy Timesquare! To hell with Viacom and MTV, bring back the 10 cent peep shows!
