THere is a common misconception that Western Moutains (ski areas) have more vertical. I often tell folks (from the east and west) that there are many moutains in the east which have similiar Vertical (and more) then alot of western moutains. Most folks don't believe me. Of course thier are such places like Blackcomb (which are in a class by themselves).

On most mountains I ride out west - I only ride the top half... The lower mountains are sketchy and crowded...
Verticle doesnt really mean a lot to me because of that...
Big Sky says they have the most vert in the US... But you can't even ski the whole vert without taking a lift...

Same for Blackcomb. The bottom3rd of that MT is Almost always slushed out due to it's low base elevation. I've skied that MT prolly 50-60 days and i've never skied the bottom 3rd -- just took the Gody back down. I'm usually too pooped to deal with that crap at the end of the day.

Bristol Mountain - Canandaigua, New York
Here's a good one:

Mt. LaCrosse - LaCrosse, Wisconsin
Is 516 feet really a mountain? I have about that much vertical on my driveway!

Word up to Yawgoo valley with 245 big ft in southern RI.
What a strange place to have a ski hill: no snow and land so flat they have sod farms all around it.

It's not ice... It's hardpack!!! That's not Ice or Hardpack! It's BULLETPROOF! Otherwise known as boilerplate! http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif Heh heh heh..... The east coast riders/skiers are the BEST in the world because of it! http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Local Hill: Mt Sunapee
Vert: bigger than an anthill, smaller than Everest http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif 1,510'
I can't find Greek Peak in Cortland, NY or The Pinnacle in Addison, NY. Both were my original 'home hills'.
