I downloaded (http://wizbangblog.com/archives/004656.php) about 200 megs worth of various amature videos taken during the impact off a torrent. Talk about some crazy footage, very scary stuff seeing it come in, rising so quickly with so much debris.

Probably the scariest "real" videos I've ever seen. It must have been absolutely terrifying.

I implore you all, if you haven't already, please donate to organizations that are helping the victims of this tragedy. That area of the world is poor enough as it is, and this has been very debilitating. They really need our help. Also make sure the organizations you choose to donate to are upstanding, and give at least 80% of incoming donations to those who need it. There are some less than stellar aid programs out there...

Friday I was able to take advantage of MRG's week-days Tsanumi Relief offer. Cheap tix for a minimum donation of $5. I donated $10. They may do it again this week.

My wife's work is matching donations up to $100 and mine is hooked into UNICEF, no match though. We spent some time with our books and can come up with 250 bucks.

And, gulp, I will stop buying cigars until Independence Day and see how much that can add for a donation to CARE.

You gotta at least save enough to buy just 1 cigar for yourself! A climb up tux just wouldn't be the same without it! http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif

Fortunately, I had some good help in gathering a large sum of money to help with this crisis. And I KNOW exactly where is being spent. We advised those on the receiving end not to use it all just yet. This will take about 8 months to recover and funding will still be needed up to and beyond that time. Lot's of new construction has commenced and will be ongoing for a long time.

But the immediate need is still shelter, food, water and clothing. Transportation of goods has been our biggest challange.
