View Full Version : Ragged Mt or Sunapee - Feb 2

I'm headed to one of these two mountains tomorrow with my wife. She's an intermediate skier and it'll be my first in bounds experience on tele. We'll have a radio with us.
Never having been to either mountain, any suggestions as to which one we might enjoy more?
Update: It's going to be Sunapee - can't wait to be skiing in warm weather for a change!
I was at Raggad on sunday with a very beginner skier, and he had a great time. Theres a gladed run with some small fun bumps on it with a beginner trail right next to it - it's far skiers right after you get off the 6 pack lift. The 6 pack is wicked fast too - very nice lift. Devil's fiddle is also open, with VERY thin cover, but at least it's a little challenging. Bring the rock skiis.
We hit some ice late in the day, but if they groom you and her shouldn't see too much on the main trails.
Both raggad and sunapea have deals on wednesdays - and if you don't mind doing a little finagiling (is that the word?) you will get a cheaper day at ragged as they have the carload for $50. So if you make a couple friends in the parking lot when you get to the window say you all came in the same car. Sunapea is 2 for $52 on wed I think.

Which mountain is sunnier? Tomorrow is supposed to be just like today and it'd be nice not to be in the shadows the entire time (such as is the case at places like Attitash).
Hmmm... looks like a tele demo day (http://www.mtsunapee.com/mountaininfo/eventsdetail.html?event=352) tomorrow at Sunapee. Not that I'm good enough to be doing demos yet.
Raggad was very sunny. Didn't get shadows until like 3pm. Not sure about sunapea, but I think the both pretty much face north.

Yup.... both have pretty much same face, yet Snappy (Sunapee) does VERY good grooming work. Ragged still needs to blow more and learn to groom as well.
I like Ragged because it's a bit smaller and has interesting trails and usually far less crowdage and less expensive.
Snappy on the other hand has more trails, glades which tend to be hacked up and bumped(provided good snow coverage)..... They blow incredible amounts of snow to get excellent trail coverage... off trail isn't all that great now.
Good place to learn....but pricey. Sun tends to last a little longer on the Summit chair and there are a couple blue runs on the 'westerly' face. But for max sun... go up the s-l-o-w bowl chair in the morning through till 2:30-3..... good sunny place to play.... most everything is intermediate and easy.
Snappy is here in my back yard.... 10mins away.
