This coming weekend -- which is a long weekend for those of us who celebrate our ancestral patriots -- Olivia and I will be skiing into the Dry River Wilderness to Mount Isolation. We will most likely be in the woods for two nights, basecamping somewhere and day-touring. If we reach the summit of Isolation, it will be the 48th NH 4000' peak (out of 48) that I have skied. That is our goal.

Last weekend, Olivia threw her poles and cursed the snow (learning to telemark can be frustrating, and I'm an overly demanding coach), but I quickly made supplication on bended knees to ULL that he not be angered and allow us continued admission to Ydalir. Still, completion of the upcoming adventure is not guaranteed.

May ULL bless all who glide on snow this weekend. May we all return with tales, smiles, and rocking raccoon tans.

Step away from teaching your SO to tele. Just STEP AWAY.

Yup, yup yup...good plan...ski all you want, take pictures....no need for coaches to tag along.....trust me on that...leave the coach at home!

The best thing to say is almost always, "What's your take on...."?

Remember OralPedectomy is very painfull.

The coaching is mutual. Each of us demands excellent performance from the other -- better performance than we can give.

In fact, my sweetheart said to me the other day, "Maybe you should stop showing me all those ski movies. They make you seem like less of an expert."

:o

It's all in fun.

Jeeesus. Mt. Isolation?!

That is about as far away from anywhere as you can get. I can't even get myself to go there let alone my SO.

We are not worthy. The weekend could be great weather. Good luck! IT could be a trip of a lifetime....

All 48 on ski... now THAT's admirable! I've completed the 48 on foot with my long gone pal http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/coolpaw.gif 3 yrs ago. Hmmmm...... NOW you've got me thinking. I may have to pick your brain about doing them on skis....

Way to go! Good luck and come back with good news!

Hmmm. Mt Isolation, by my calculator, thats within easy range of both Gulf o' Slides and Oaks Gulf. If you havn't been yet, i highly recomend Oaks.

I do believe that Mr. Knowledge (aka El bagr) has been almost anywhere you could think of to ski around here.

I do believe that Mr. Knowledge (aka El bagr) has been almost anywhere you could think of to ski around here.Yeah, I'm just guessing, but El bagr's handle kinda gives that away....like it was the short form of "the peak bagger", or "the hearty adventurer that bags all the interesting stuff there is to bag"

like a few first descents on skis, in boats....and such

Prolly some secret ascents too...I'll bet a six-pack on that!

I'll raise you a 12 pack ... (of bush ice ;) )

Went past Mt Isolation last summer. Didn't summit. We did a CRAZY day trip that started at Glen bolder and went all the way to Bartlett and our ski club. We envisioned the trip the first time we summited Mt Parker and looked over the beautiful ridge line to Mt Washington. “Wouldn’t it be cool to come all the way here from Washington?” It was originally planned as a two day trip staying somewhere around Mt Isolation. We decided to do it in one day. It was pretty intense. There is a GREAT camp site on Stair Mt that is not on the map. It’s a legal site. Signs and all. Right next to a really cool cliff. Climbed out there with D last summer and top roped the cliff…. But I digress. Mt Isolation is friggen far away. Where are you planning to ski it? The hiking trail or do you have a secret stash on the mountain??

Your Montalban Ridge trip sounds like fun. Our summit plan involves a lot of hiking trail plus some not-so-secret shortcuts ... and hopefully there will be an extra 24 hours or so that we'll use skiing some unmentionable out-of-the way places.

I'll bring back pics...
