Quick Question...s...

...I am trying to arrange a weekend trip to Tuckerman with a bunch of my friends and am wondering if the Inferno Weekend (April 19...)is a good time to go...Since the race is taking place, are observers allowed to do the hike up to the Ravine ?...Is skiing the Ravine that weekend reserved for the participants of the race only?...Where is a good place to stay?...Where is the Party ????...Are there places from which one can watch the race/skiing?...Bottom line...Is this going to be a fun sporty/social weekend and a good time to be at Tuck's!!!!

Thanks...Cinda

Well if your looking for a fun sporty/social weekend... the Inferno weekend is certainly a good choice. Observers/hikers/skiers can hike up/watch/ski like any other weekend... the only difference is it will be VERY busy the day of the race... Saturday.

Get there early if you want a place to park (or take the special shuttle from Wildcat ($5 return I believe last year).

Hike up early before the traffic jams (see http://timefortuckerman.com/photos2001-04-21.html?16 for an example. The runners doing the leg of the race from Pinkham to the bowl had to fight through the crowd hiking up from HoJo's last year.

The race course area limits the available area to ski in the bowl... but there is still plenty to ski for those not in the race.

There is a private party for race participants. Last year most stayed at Attitash (party was there too).

For places to stay, visit http://skicentral.com/newhampshire1.html or http://skicentral.com/cgi/search1?search=lodging+tuckerman . Many places to choose from in Gorham, North Conway and around Attitash.
