Hic, Arlington is a "dry" town. Oddly enough there are a lot of liquor stores all along its borders (go figure) with many fine beverages.

On the other hand, Davis Sq. (where Redbones is located) has plenty of fine drinking establishments, including Johnny D's across the street, and the opportunities skyrocket if considering parts of Cambridge within 10 minutes driving distance.

Celtist guitarist Tony McManus is playing at Johnny D's on 5/17 starting at 8:30. This might make a very nice apres Redbones event: http://www.tonymcmanus.com/

I just found out I'll be juggling all my balls on 5/17, 'cause I now have a client presentation on wednesday morning. Should be interesting.

I'm not partial to fruity beers, although MH No. 9 has some subtle apricot that does not detract and the lemon zest in Sam's Summer Lager is not bad on a hot day (neither is on the RB list). Let's split a Blueberry and two Guiness o.k.?

Pilsner Urquell is my summer standard,
Guiness is my lo-cal winter standard (125 calories :) ), and Boddington's my high-cal winter standard,
and Sierra Nevado just about anytime (on a roll now!)

I was treated to Smuttynose IPA at Joe Dodge Lodge Rathskellar in March - it tasted mighty good there (doesn't everything?)

And Brooklyn Lager is really alright - worth a head-to-head with Sam's Lager methinks.

I wish they had Leffe!

Mmmmm.....fresh

RR: Strong statement about how IPA's stack up! I'd like to do a "head-to-head" IPA test: Harpoon, Acme, Smuttynose, Magic Hat (Blind Faith), Stone and any other that happens to be knocking around.

SteveYup, tried that a few times....seeking to be tasting nectar and lifted high...what I usually get is a sour stomach and hung over...

The thin stuff does that to me, That MM sounds good!!

Magic Hat makes a couple of secret brew beers in the fall...growlers only...yummy

Harpoon....sorry I don't see the point

Acme IPA is pretty good...worth having two anyway

Smuttynose Old Brown Dog is tasty and nutritious, a couple of those is just the ticket.

When all else fails there is
Double Bag...two or more is a very good idea!

kfarrar

Anchor Liberty for me all the way!

wait maybe Guiness,

wait maybe the Porter RR mentioned,

wait maybe....

I'm just gonna go crazy thinking about all the brews I can choose from.

Too bad they don't have Pigs Ear:(

However, I don't think I'll have a problem finding one or two or ...no no no (note to self I can't get drunk :( )

Of this list, Acme, HANDS DOWN, or glasses down, the best. Hmm, actually, I'm not sure I've had Stone.

But in general, It takes a mighty fine beer to get me excited these days, there are so many good ones. The last three to to light my fire in the last 1.5 years have been Pigs Ear, Acme IPA, and Red Seal Ale. Oh yeah, and I remember having one at the last Redbones that I really liked... mmm, maybe Hop Devil, not sure.

Today I am purifying myself for Redbones T4T - have to lay off of the cheap stuff after hockey and settle for late night tea.

As a lunchtime curiousity I checked out Beer Advocate for some of the beers on tap:

Stone IPA 91
Stone Arrogant 91
Smuttynose IPA 91
Ommegang 90
Cambridge Blunderbuss 90
St. Bernardus Prior 90
Sierra Nevada Pale 89
Paulaner Wheat 89
Avery Maharajah IPA 89
Anchor Liberty 88
Geary's Hampshire 88
Unibroue Currant 88
Berkshire Drayman's Porter 86
Guiness 84
Pilsner Urquell 83
Newcastle Brown 79

Of course, some were not listed, including Bear Hop, and a couple others. All of the beers on this list excepting the last two are recommended. Man, I've got a lot of drinking to do!

BTW, American Beerfest is 6/17 and 6/18 at the Cyclorama in Boston. Yum!

There's a good-size town parking lot just north of the Somerville Theater on Holland (same side of Holland/Elm as the Theater and Redbones, the zoomed map star for the Theater is not quite correct, Theater is at Holland/Dover intersection):

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?latlongtype=internal&addtohistory=&latitude=xn4%2ffVU%2fVjM%3d&longitude=VwRw4TnXiI8%3d&name=Somerville%20Theatre&country=US&address=55%20Davis%20Sq&city=Somerville&state=MA&zipcode=02144&phone=617%2d625%2d5700&spurl=0&searchtype=search&cat=Movie%20Theatres

The parking lot is bounded by Holland, Meacham and Buena Vista. If you're coming East from Mass Ave. on Day street and you can't find a street spot on Elm, head down Elm past Chester (Redbones), turn left on Grove or Cutter(I forget whether Grove goes the correct way), left on Highland, go back through the Square, bear rightish past the Somerville Theater on Holland, and look for the parking entry on the left.
