So as not to derail Dave's sticky thread about current conditions, I thought I'd respond to Jaytux Rainier quesiton in a new thread.
Planning on climbing/skiing the Emmons Glacier route over 4th of July weekend with two friends from work.
This is not the kind of thing you want to do with someone you don't know well (i.e. don't find your partners at the last minute on the internet!) but if anyone is interested there's still plenty of time to do some shakedown trips. We're going to Colorado over Memorial day weekend and will be up around Mt Washington a few times too.

Awesome....I have hiked around Rainier a bit and would love to bag that summit. Probably will have to move there for that. We expect full reports and photos.

Rainier is simply an amazing climb. The summit is probably the greatest thing that ever happened to me...What a feeling of accomplishment. It simply can't be beat.
Emmons sounds good. I did the DC July 15-16 and it was in good shape, but they've had so little snow this year...Still should be sweet though. :)
I dont have any pics on my computer, but I can tell you one thing:
PUT SUNSCREEN ON YOUR LIPS!!!!!! My friend didnt put it on his lips on summit day, and it was total :sunshine: :bluebird: with no clouds, and his lips cracked and spewed yellowish pus all the next day. It was so bad that he had to drink out of a straw for like the next 3 days...
Take the :camera: and have some fun! That is the experience of a lifetime man!

Wow, very nice! One of my long-term goals is to ski from the top of Rainier. (Been on the lower flanks six times, but never up above where it gets really technical.) This year I'll be on Shasta or Lassen though over July 4 (conference presentation in San Francisco).
Here are some pics of the Emmons at the same time last yr from Steamboat Prow (just a daytrip, so we didn't go any higher than that):

Then a daytrip the next day to the top of the Russell Headwall (a completely different side of the mountain - drove many hours to end up probably only a few miles from where I'd been the previous day)

Mmmmmmmmmmmmm...........Rainier. So sweet! Just make sure the Emmons isn't too broken up...
I'll be on the Grand Teton this summer... 7/18-7/21. Not quite as high, (13,770') but should be good. Just about the 1 year anniversary of my Rainier summit. (7/16/04).
Have some fun up there!

Wow, You certainly will enjoy Ranier.
I hiked up from Paradise to the upper Muir SnowFields back in late July of 1986. It was awesome. Plenty of snow. Wish I had been better prepared - my boots got soaked, my ears turned to a crisp. Use sunscreen!
Have a great time.
