Anyone have any recommendations about the weekend of 4/7 as far as whether it is a good move to ski Tuckerman? I am a first-timer and not sure how to approach current conditions. Basically I'm looking for opinions to wait or to go for it. Thanks

I'm in the same boat. First timer and want to go this weekend as it's the only one that will work for me this spring. I'd love to head up there, but I'm a little worried as it seems early, avalanche predictions on the main headwall are moderate, this year has seen some heavy snow accumulation, and the weather is calling for a little mixed precipitation. I have a little backcountry experience in the west and have taken an avalanche safety course so am not a complete novice, but I would greatly appreciate any thoughts. Others in the group are a little worried as well...

As far as this weekend goes, I had a group set to go for the 8th, but we called it off. The Low and Moderate avalanche danger notwithstanding, the whole experience is a lot more fun when the weather is better. If visibility is poo, or there is high winds, it is just not the same.
If this is the only weekend that you can make it, go for it. There are always less people there in early April, so you don't get stuck hiking single-file behind mom and the kids at a snail's pace. Plus, you can post a message here and let us all know how the sherburne ski trail is looking.
For the record I have hiked and skiied the ravine three of the last four years, and most of the time the avalanche danger was low to moderate.
See you there on the 22nd if you go!
