Just picked this up on www.steepandcheap.com for 39.76, great deal !

http://akamai.backcountrystore.com.edgesuite.net/images/items/large/BLD0666/SBBLU.jpg

Black Diamond's ultralight Speed alpine pack is constructed from lightweight and tough 210-D SilNylon. The Speed has the perfect capacity and features for traveling light and fast over snow and ice. Designed to be worn climbing, the Speed's narrow profile keeps it away from your arms as you climb. Stripped down to the essentials, the Speed offers firmer padding all around, a removable foam bivy pad, adjustable side ski straps and ice axe holders. The Speed is a hard-core summit pack for speed alpinists and summit mountaineers needing a minimalist rig to make that final push.

I think this is a killer deal, has everything you need for 1-2 night stay in the backcountry, but remember it has no sleeping bag compartment, so it will have to be strapped below the pack.

Can't go wrong with that price, I really just don't need any more packs though... It's a nice minimalist design. Big fricken deal about lack of sleeping bag compartment!?! I never use them anyhow. My summer down bag is about 1/2 the size of those compartments any how...

While that may be a great pack for the price, I envision you bailing off an easy route and blaming the weight of the pack. Straight up, I have beef. What the **ck right do you have to masquerade around as a person in the know. Do us all a favor and stop being something you're not. Take the fam up, that is perfect excuse for not getting it done.
You are a joke, grow something that might look like a set.

O so now I see where the negative feed back came from, when I posted the pic of chute.

Direct quote from Ispoiler: your a joke, sell your skis

Dont know where the beef is comming from. And I should have to explain why I went up the the bowl with out my skis this time, and you shouldnt have a problem with it, it dosent consern you.

But I will sense you feel so strongly against the fact I didnt bring my skis but my family.

First off, I decided not to bring the skis cause I wanted to spend time with my wife that I usually dont see often cause I work my ass off.

Second, I already hit the bowl early april fools weekend with 2 days of skiing, sorry you missed the TR. I didnt want to be selfish. This was my wife's first time up in the bowl sense she dosent ski and I didnt want to run off for an hour of so and leave her just sitting there.

Third, I may not know everything, but I know enough to keep myself safe, and have commen sense to not do things above my ability, and deciding on a pack is one of them. Sorry you have more expierence than I and you wear it like a badge to knock others who dont.

I never had a problem with you ever, and I'm honestly shocked your pissed I didnt ski the bowl last week. And if its an expierence thing, remember you had to start somewhere too, you wernt born with the knowledge you have today.

Thanks Ispoiler for your words of discouragement.

I would call that long range planning. http://www.timefortuckerman.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif Good deal on that pack.... I thought hard about getting one and say what Sledman says.

Me thinks that Ispoiler hasn't been gettin' it lately... know what I mean? http://timefortuckerman.com/photopost/data/774/1659horny.gif

Like a lot of gear, I have more than I need, but not all I want.

I actually had a summit pack made by TNF, (Smaller cube, I think). I found it so bare bones and small, it was hard to use for anything but a summit or side trip. I had bought it for short change to use as a patrol pack, it found a new, more deserving home on E-bay and I had some $$ to feed the Sledhauler-hauler.

On a more serious (and important) note.

What do you guys call Canadian Bacon up there? Surely "bacon" is "bacon" the world over.

Justin

I'll play, I gots me two!

1)
An American, a Scot and a Canuk were in a terrible car accident. They were all brought to the same emergency room, but all three of them died before they arrived. Just as they were about to put the toe tag on the American, he stirred and opened his eyes. Astonished, the doctors and nurses present asked him what happened.

"Well," said the American, "I remember the crash, and then there was a beautiful light, and then the Canadian and the Scot and I were standing at the gates of heaven. St. Peter approached us and said that we were all too young to die, and that for a donation of $100, we could return to the earth."

He continued, " So of course, I pulled out my wallet and gave him the $100, and the next thing I knew I was back here."

"That's amazing!" said one of the doctors, "But what happened to the other two?"

"Last I saw them," replied the American, "the Scot was haggling over the price and the Canadian was waiting for the government to pay for his."

2)What does making woopy in a canoe and canadian beer have in common?

Yeah Affix, I was really struggling with that. There are others on this board I could probably argue with for days but that's not what this site is about.

What are your plans when you go hang out with ISpoiler? In the next month or so we're hoping to nail down that spring trip, I'll let you know when we start looking at booking a date.

Yeah...that was fun though....good times!

Baker is the Main Objective. Prolly save that for later in the week though.

Other than that we plan on skinning, climbing, and riding down some snow somewhere in the Cascades and maybe up by Whistler.

Mmmmm....Spring dates. :)

1. I would figure the American would be too busy on his phone calling his lawyer...but who am to judge

2. I'll take a pretty much any Canadian beer made in Canada over a Bud, Miller, or Busch made in America any day. I'm sorry but American "Big Brew Beer" Sucks. You guys got some great Micro brews. We have some great Micros up here as well. We just have no where near the selection of Micro Brews up here (at least around where I live).

Having the government pay for health care has got good points and bad points. Good points is it's free. Bad points is like anything that's free there is usually a line up and you gotta wait your turn.

I live in Taxachusetts and pay $83.85 a week for non-HMO family coverage. What I get for that is the ability to walk into the Orthopedist or Chiropractor any time and pay an office visit of 10 bucks...the RPT is 10 bucks a visit...

Without that coverage the knee surgery would have cost me more than I paid in last year...The RPT would be over 85 bucks a visit @3x/wk...yegads that would add up!

No gatekeeper and no hassle...here's my card, bill them...here's your $10 and thanks!

I hate to be a stickler, Jolly J, but you've touched something very near and dear to my heart.

Bacon most certainly is NOT bacon (at least in the states - and all the bacon I've had north of the border pretty much resembles ours):

Bacon: salted and dried or smoked meat from bellies of pig (in U.S.) OR sometimes sides and back of pig (Euro, S.Am.. maybe CN);

Canadian bacon (in the U.S., a/k/a back bacon): a lean cut taken from the eye of the loin in the middle of the back precooked and smoked. Much more akin to ham than U.S. bacon.

Mexican bacon: sliced, fried bologna. (Not even pork)

Put em all together and make Lisa Simpson's altered states' sensory deprivation hallucinatory dream sandwich . . . mmmmm . . . Mexican Bacon.

Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
Lisa: No.
Homer: Ham?
Lisa: No
Homer: Pork Chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.
Homer: Heh heh heh. Oh yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

A wonderful, magical animal indeed. :D

I was on a camping trip where some folks made "fakin' bacon". It looked like that gum fruit stripes. I suspect it tasted much worse.

Maybe I'm a little bais , but if your a vegatain than why are you eating things that are mimicking foods of which you don't eat?

I've had fakin bacon - it's gross. Imitation bits can be okay on a salad but are nutritionally worthless.

Tofu turkey is sacrilege. Flavor is fine but texture is a b*st*rdization of the bird.

I've had some tasty vegetarian sausages. I prolly prefer a good veggie burger to about 95% of the meat burgers out there (and I'm a meathead).

I think they vegies look to carnies for inspiration for the same reason any chef tries new dishes: relief from boredom of the same old mundane recipes you've had thousands of times.

I like how we're making good use of the new "Tech Talk Forum". Affix, die forum polizei, will doubtlessly be pleased.
