Silverton Mountain Opens Nov. 23rd
WITH STEEP TERRAIN & FREE SKIING
The biggest all expert ski area in North America is ready to go with all natural snow. As of November 23, Silverton Mountain will open for the winter season. There will initially be 7 ski runs open with several more slated to open each day throughout the weekend. Due to the snow storm that dropped 30” of new snow last week, above 10, 400’(our base area elevation) you will still find light powder snow. Brand new for 2006-2007 are expanded unguided ski options from- Thanksgiving through Jan 14, and -from April 5 through April 29. Guided only skiing will occur Jan 18th through April 1 (although guides are available all season).
At 1,819 acres Silverton now surpasses Telluride in size and is one of largest ski areas in Colorado. The runs to be open for opening day include Cabin, Riff, Raff, Colorado, Tiger Claw, Concussion, and Tiger 1-5. Ropedeedope, Mandatory, Splitski, and Waterfall should open throughout the weekend for some fun skiing and boarding.
Free Skiing / Bootpacking- Earn free ski days by helping with bootpacking. The bootpacking days are November 25 & 26, and December 2&3. Earn free skiing by helping stomp down the snow in avalanche starting zones. Skiers and snowboarders welcome. No experience required, but you must have a beacon, shovel and probe (limited rentals available). Each day you snow pack earns you a free unguided ski day andyou can earn up to 4 free days this year. Since we plan to be open for skiing at the same time, you can pack for a day and use your free ticket the following day if you wish. Packers and skiers will be in separate areas of the mountain. Reservations are not needed for bootpacking. Just show up ready for a full day of packing at 8:45 am (duck tape your pant legs to keep the snow out).
Now everyone can get local discounted pricing with the new development of G-Cards, now on sale for only $29. With a G-Card you will be able to purchasediscounted unguided $39 tickets all season long (during unguided skiing). G- Cards are available to anyone from anywhere but in order to get the $39 local deal you will need to purchase a G-Card this year. Regular day tickets remain unchanged at $49.
For those who love the guided only season, this will still be happening from January 18-April 1. Since the guided only season is short this year we recommend making reservations as soon as possible
