I voted, for the 11th, but the 18th ok for me.

I cant do a mid week, cause I teach in CT so that would be impossible.

It would be really cool if there was a long weekend with a Monday off, but I dont see any comming up.

Bummer about the 18th as it is my best option...

I ski Free at Wildcat on the 11th so I would prefer the 4th for the field day. I will hold all three open for sliding/avi1-training

I know I am not part of the Avi I class but this does line up with some other stuff. IME is doing an Ice-Fest (http://www.ime-usa.com/ice_festival/) the weekend of Feb 8-11. I was kinda thinking of heading up there for some ice climbing on the 9-th. Drive up to Jay Peak that evening, do the Jay Peak Rando Rally on Feb 10, and then maybe come back to Conway for more ice climbing on the 11-th. it would be a fun weekend. Just figured I would mention that as I think one or two other people here are interested in some ice climbing.

I also found this place, which has indoor ice climbing..I hope to give them a try:

Do you want to plan a meeting time at the GOS trail head?

Affix, Mainwarning, Scottie, and I are comming up in my Subi.

Leaving from CT hopfully as early as we can, maybe by 530.

Could be at trail head between 1030 to 1100pm.

This is all speculation due to the uncertainty of the weather, but if things go right, which they should, we can do a night hike up, and not have to get up as early cause we would already be in GOS, and we can relax while others catch up.

Only thing that could stop us is below 0 temps (not windchill) or the liquid stuff that falls out of the sky and dosent freeze.

M@

Is the GOS trail hard to follow?

Somthing to consider for next weekend....although they did just pick up a bit more snow as of sat am.

Jay Philbrick went up to Mount Washington to do some skiing today, here is his report:
The Tuckerman Ravine Trail is in pretty good shape for skinning now though there are still a fair number of rocks sticking out throughout its length. The Sherburne Ski Trail as of today is in excellent shape with good snow. There is just barely enough snow on it to cover all the rocks. There are a lot of weeds sticking through and the water bars are quite abrupt. But, the skiing is great and the run down is well worth the skin up.

Higher up the news is not as good. In Tuckerman Ravine it looks more like November than February. There is still very little snow to be found. The only runs even close to considering are Left Gully and The Chute. Everything else is brush, rocks, or ice. The Headwall area is still more climbing terrain than skiing terrain. Forget about skiing down to Hermit Lake. The Cutler River is open in many places and the Little Headwall is still open and the run below that is thick with brush. The Gulf of Slides Ski Trail is also a no-go.

In tuckermans recently. which means there enough for field day to be useful.
Mebbe a lot of wind-scouring?

From the avy report
....
Surprise, surprise! Since yesterday afternoon Hermit Lake received 6.5" (16.7 cm) of new and unexpected snow with a density of 8.1%. The Summit recorded 3.8" (9.7 cm) with a density of 12%, however, it seems that higher snowfall totals occurred at most elevations on the mountain. There is a chance for more accumulating snow in the mountains from up-slope energy, particularly this morning. The summit folks think that these will produce light accumulations while NOAA indicated that 3 to 6" (7.6 to 15 cm) of new accumulation may occur in the mountains. As the weather looks right now it seems that snow is tapering off. Winds are forecasted to be out of the WNW 65 to 85 mph (120 to 154 kph) with higher gusts. These winds will load new snow into the ravines throughout the day and, as a result, create unstable slabs. Given the amount of new snow we have received, the possibility for more today and the increasing winds throughout the day, we think natural avalanche activity is likely in most forecast areas today.
....

I'm doing all of chauvins course this weekend.

Cannon picked up 7", wildcat 6-8" , HoJo's 6.5". (Jay 9")

So mebbe skiing next weekend wont be optimal, but methinks field day will be much better than back in dec...

This has quite possibly become the most degenerated post in T4T history

Pain in the petooka patient: Well? Doc? What the hell is wrong with me?

Doctor: Well, besides a pretty severe case of sandinvaginitis, I'd say you have the flu.

I am having some car issues... I don't know what will happen...

You all met Chris last time you were up, and he will be there this weekend, just in case I can't make it. I will call him and let him know what's going on.

I am 88.3%, with a whateverthehellIcandotomakeitI'lldo contingent.

I know RR and m@ have my number, and I think most of the rest of you do too.

I won't be up til close to midnight Fri, I work til 7, prolly l8er.

Does anyone have any plans for Sunday?

If you need a ride, or for that matter, if anyone wants to carpool. The Chauvin gig is at Pinkham both days, and I'll head back afterwords at 6pm or so Sunday...

I have three plans for Sunday...I can go with any of them:
1) Get up early go to Pinkham Notch for breakfast (yummy PNVC brekkers @6:30AM), followed by First tracks at the Kitty (for free, 'cause it's my birthday), followed by leaving straight for home around 4:30 or 4:40.
2) yummy PNVC brekkers @6:30AM, followed by skinning into the Presis for some sliding, followed by leaving straight for home around 4:30 or 4:40
3) yummy PNVC brekkers @6:30AM, followed driving to a secret location to do some slacking/skinning to check my gnarl factor, followed by leaving straight for home as the wilderness allows (hitchhiking will be involved unless some fool with a car wants to go play even though the cover will be just a skosh over adequet.)

I will also consider alternatives that involve sliding after a breakfast that commences by 6:30-6:45 if driving of 45 minutes or more is required to reach the sliding. That is to say there is no time for hangovers to get in the way of me skiing....call me ruthless  if you like....in this matter you'd be right!

SkiLas: If you bus up to Nashua you can ride with me.

My sunday plan is up in the air - I'd "Like" to be in Boston at 2pm for a conference on Kids and Computers at the MOS - but I can miss that.

I'd really like to play with my new AT setup over at Cannon and beyond.

Skilas, did you get my P.M.? I've been kind of floating around trying to figure out what would be funnest this weekend . I was thinking to head up somewhere in the morning and go somewhere else on sunday, still considering Mt. Washington

However, if you want a lift later on tonight, I can make it happen. I just need to put my things together after work, and could pick you up after you get off. Missing component is lodging, but if if Bretts still has room I'm in.

Since I have my Avi 1 completed I would do some bc splitboarding on saturday, maybe tele at a resort on sunday.

Thanks for all the ride offers, but working til 7ish, and anyway, I can only afford to go up if I get paid for Monday and Tuesday at Black...

I am back to 99.9% with the last minute rental of a sardine-can-of-a-chevy-economy-with-crank-windows-and-not-even-a-tape-player... I need a freekin' starter for my 900T that started up just fine last week, but as soon as plates were attached all sorts of things went wrong. I just had the worst 11 hours of 2007 :( , but fortunately, I'm pretty sure it will be followed by the best 4 days :skiplow: of 2007 (so far)

Anyhoo, see you all around midnight.

I, too, have free skiing at the kitty (I am this season's Viking Lord of the Games :D ). But either of Arrgh Arrgh's other options could be good too, or, as another option, Hale Woods, but again, coverage may be exceedingly meagre.

I'm bringing my laptop (hint, hint) but was unable to find an install disc.

With Elwood not coming, are we able to "substitute" people into the group? I'm in favor of adding Steve if we can. Shouldn't add to the cost of the trip - and shouldn't cancel Elwood's ability to do the trip with another group later.

O.K., I'm in (in a fashion):
- Will be driving up to PN early tomorrow, planning on skinning with splitter up to TR to explore around and/or yo-yo Sherbie.
- Saturday night enjoy Bretts hospitality and Skilas' fine cuisine.
- Sunday *very* interested in something Gnarly, perhaps assist in car-spotting, slacking, sliding and bird-watching. Also open to working on tele turns at Wildcat. It's RR's birthday, so he's the man.

RR, Skilas, I'll be calling if this post seemed too late to catch your attentions.

Hey,
My field day is Sunday with Chauvin, so was hoping to get a tune done for Sunday. I have iron/wax/bevel file, and a rough idea but NO skillz ( I'm trying to get into it..). So could anyone recommend a tuning shop near there which would turn around in a few hours to a day?

See you guys at the lodge!
