The REI dividend and/or tax return new toy thread.
My purchase with the REI dividends was a Black Diamond Mesa tent.
http://www.blackdiamondequipment.com/images/gear/s07/810190_Mesa.jpg
Now I need to set it up in my living room and play fort for a bit.
In a related topic, whoever came up with this in-store delivery idea was a business genius. I order the tent online, have it shipped to the nearest REI store, thinking I am saving $20 on shipping. Then I go to that REI store to pick up the tent, and drop $70 on carabiners and other assorted maps and books. Real big saving there.

you must have had a mighty big dividend. Our's was $17, basically the dividend off of what we bought when we spent last years dividend, plus the extra stuff we couldn't resist. REI is like that. you walk in and can't help but buy stuff

Affix, I have that axe as well. It is a nice one. I am still mulling over how light of a crampon setup I want. The anti-ball plates being the major sticking point (pun somewhat intended).
RR, I have been eyeballing that since November. Major gear envy! Have you used it yet?

I picked up these puppies
http://i18.ebayimg.com/02/i/000/95/57/ad34_1.JPG
for high-speed cruising days at Wachusett, which accounts for about half of my ski days. I figured it made more sense to get some low-cost carving skis than to invest in phat skis (and associated AT binders & skins) right now. Next winter, I'll pick up those fatboys. My 10ex's are getting along in years.
Now, how many pairs of skis counts as a quiver? Maybe I'll get to post a picture someday soon.

another upgrade
started car camping in the wifes purple honda back in the early 90's and slept in the free cancer tent that Marlboro sent to my dad (remember the coupons and gear you could exchange for). then had an 85 VW Westy, last few years was a Coleman Pop-up, we now move on to what i call the taj mahal....EASY set up, 3 pop out beds, full bathroom, AC, heat, heated mattress pads, solar panel charger...in other words, minimal complaining by all parties involved (i could care less, but for a good marriage and family fun, it seemed appropriate)
the innagural outing is this weekend at Smuggler's Notch State Park
i wish Phish would get back together just to i could relish the comforts of a clean crapper at a festival.:D

Woo Hoo I finally get to get in on the new toy thread. Its not totally new, but new to me.
http://www.techsourceconsultants.com/coppermine/albums/userpics/10044/normal_trek.jpg
I've resisted the full suspension thing as long as I could. Most of the guys I ride with are hard tail purests, and 29ers, and are gonna give me a load of crap for my new ride, but I have been doing a ton of riding this year, and sometimes padded shorts just aren't enough...if you know what I mean.
Its a TREK Fuel and I am having a very hard time getting used to this bike on the steep uphill climbs. Hopefully the learning curve isnt to much.

There's a tree house with a zipline going to the swing set.
Back yard terrace w/BBQ?
More decking than I'm comfortable with... I have nightmares of staining it all.

M@That, my friend, is what we use sprayers for! Better watch the footings for plant, moss and mold growths. Refooting is a b!tch!

This is about 1/2 the cost of a Vespa. For me scooter=Vespa too, but when I seriously started looking, I realized what I wanted was a well made scooter with a Vespa-like style, more than I wanted to pay a Vespa price for the name.
And thanks, Surf!
I finally got my ancient Trek750-Multitrack re-equipped. I just picked it up and stowed it in the car....naturally it will rain this evening. I'll have to snag a ride Saturday.
Gone are all the Altus bits and other assorted riff and raff...
Hello Deore (full, XL for the rear der.), cool new double wall wheels on Deore hubs....
Pix tonight...
Picked this up yesterday:
It's on top of a hill where I hope to claim first descents.

Just in case there was any doubt...this is not about toys at all...this is serious bidniss! Being "at the back" on the skin track makes it very tough to nab first drop-ins...no more lantern rouge!

Don't have the 'I fart' app (my farts came preloaded when I was born).
'iBeer' is hillarious, and 'Guitar' are my favs. iMunchies is fun too. Be sure to load Google Earth too (free). Flashlight may come in useful some times. WifiTrak is great to (for iTouch owners).
Useless, but fun are 'campfire' (virtual campfire to keep you warm), the Zippo lighter, lightsaber, Fake-a-call (fun for iTouch owners).

i started looking at what case would be good, lord knows someone will drop it at some point, and came across this
http://goincase.com/products/detail/power-slider-ec20003
acts as an external battery too, more than doubling the life of the battery. question remains though, is it too bulky with it? doesn't look like it.
we shall see.
I got the belt clipped case from the AT&T store - it works really well. I never thought I'd be the kinda person to wear anything on my belt - but I like this case.
