The weather was BEAUTIFUL all weekend! First time to Tuck's for me - I'll be back, soon. Unfortunately, we learned that 2 hikers fell into the crevasse just right of Chicken Rock at about 8pm Sat. Took Mtn. Rescue 'till 1am to pull them out, 5am to get them off the mountain. Heard they were in okay condition, though. Kudos to those brave volunteers who saved the hikers. On a lighter note, we made strawberry Stoli/strawberry jello shots at HoJo's. Best jello shots I've had. Shared them (and our stove) w/some Canadians who forgot (!?) to bring a stove. Come prepared, and respect the mountain - It's a 'wicked good time'!

From what I gathered (remember, this was my first time up there), Chicken Rock is to the left of the waterfall that's just right of center on the headwall.

Although I didn't bring a thermometer, it was warm (relatively speaking of course). I was wearing lightweight thermal top and bottom, powder pants, a knit hat and glove liners, and a parka. I brought up a fleece jacket, but didn't need it. My guess would be that it was in the 50's. The wind probably gusted up to 10-15 mph at times, but unless you park yourself on Lunch Rocks for more than an hour, the conditions were quite nice. Remember to bring shades http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/cool.gif and sunscreen (and apply often). My nose is red and lips are chapped http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/frown.gif

So that was your Jello shots! I was the guy that Amy named "Travelin Joe". Hope the cherry jello finally jelled! Chris, thanks again for the shots, it's rare that I get a chance to kick back and take it all in. - SherpaKroto

Last thing:
1) I wasn't part of group who forgot the stove
2) Temps: Sat - mostly 40's, down to teens at night. 15-25 mph winds all day. Sun - same, but a bit warmer (high 40's). Mon - Cloudy start, minor precip, high in the low 50's, looked like rain moving in, but ended up clearing around 1:30
If you plan to go - do it soon (now). The snow is going fast! - SherpaKroto

No doubt, was up there Saturday myself. Nice sunny day, wind was a little brisk at times but not uncomfortable. Didn't hear about those two hikers who fell, hope they turned out alright. I was up in right gully when I saw two skiers launching over that big 30-40ft crevase under the waterfall, das some risky business if you ask me.
Did also see a skier and boarder tumble head over heels just to the left of the headwall, bouncing off of some rocks on the way down http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/eek.gif!! They seem to be moving very slowly when they stopped sliding, hope they were okay too.
Do many here take stoves up? I've thought about this many times, bringing my whisperlite up and enjoying some hot coffee or tea, but the thought of lugging up any more weight makes me cringe sometimes.
Anyway, snow is still plentiful but it's getting really warm really fast. With the exception of a small (50ft?) gap towards the top, the sherburne trail is still skiable all the way down (as of saturday 4/28, have to be a little creative on your feet towards the bottom too!)

Stoves: I bought a wall-mart-cheapo burner that screws onto a can of propane. Wicked simple, but probably twice the weight of a whipser. (well, maybe %50 more weight)
It worked great. Boiled lots of water, cooked some chili-mac and made many cups of coffee.
Most people I know have at least one stove in the group if there are spending the night.
Last year a bud who just hiked up saturday brought a hibachii, and promised me a burger when I got back to HOJO. He ran out of feul and I got a cold hot-dog instead. DOH.

Here are pics from that trip: http://www.geocities.com/eflory/tucks.html
As you will see, there was not a cloud to be seen.
Hey SherpaKroto, Amy felt bad for calling you 'Travelin Joe' after she sobered up. Hope you weren't offended!

Me, offended? You guys were great! Thanks for adding to the weekend! BTW, did the cherry Jello ever Jell?
Just looked at your pics - I remember Chris's header - style points for the fist pump at the end (remember the cheer?)
Say hey to Amy, and hope to see you all again! I've got the jello packed - SherpaKroto

Funny story about the Jello:
Yes, it did jell...and again after Chris got sick and hurled! Next time, we bring just a little less booze and try not to down it all in one nite. We may make it back mid-May, but definitely last weekend next April, w/more warriors! http://timefortuckerman.com/ubb/smile.gif
