I know its still almost 2 weeks away and of course weather depending but I was wondering who has plans in the works to be up at TUX or anywhere else around the rockpile for Inferno weekend. I am planning on being up there both Sat and Sun weather permitting. I am sure it will be packed considering the amount of snow. Who else is going to be around? I would like to finally meet up with some fellow T4Ters.

Nope... nobody will be there and there will not be any snow left. No T4Tr in their right mind would be caught in a place like Tuckerman Ravine on such horrible spring weekend. They will all be at some resort skiing the boulevards that weekend.

Seeing as though I'm taking part in the Inferno, I'm 100% for the 19th. I gave a ride to a guy yesterday who helps with the course setup and word is it will once again be on Left Gully (so as to minimize the impact on the regular weekend crowd).

I'll also be up there Friday the 18th. If the weather holds after the race, I'll plan to do at least one more run in the bowl Saturday. I will be staying over at Attitash Saturday night so Sunday would be a possibility as well. Would love to meet up.

I will definitely be there, most likely with a large group. Seems like its going to be a circus up there.

Thats awesome! I saw the pics you took last weekend and they were great. Its sweet to have someone there to take professional pics of everybody. Sounds like there will be quite the T4T crowd up there... it will be cool to put some faces to the names.

Well, with my girlfriend's birthday party on Sat. afternoon, there's no way for that day, BUT, it's looking pretty good for a Sunday trip, the day after the inferno. I'll be coming up with Just Bill and maybe one or two others (c'mon PWDR8S, you know you'll be with us), and I can't wait, 'cause Just Bill has only been there to ski on a 15' x 30' patch on July 11th (my bday) with 8s and me three years ago, so he has yet to experience the thrill of dropping over the Lip, which will be worth the price of admission for me, given the look in his eyes while I was telling him about the steepness today! I'm thinking his first run just might be from Chicken Rock!
Who else is in??

I'm planning on heading up on Saturday night if I'm solo. Possibly camping in the GOS area and spending Sunday hitting up the gullies. If I can convince my friends to come up with me, Ill be in the bowl with the rest of the crowd.
See you there.

My weekend is up in the air...options, as usual!!! Unfortunatley, I have the option of making money versus spending money. Thankfully, I have the good sense of knowing what is more important. Afterall, it won't be a lot of money that I'll be spending....ga$ mostly.

Also, it's closing weekend at Alta!!!

So, at this point, I'm trying to decide if I want to spend the whole weekend in/around the Ravine or just a couple of days......decisions, decisions, decisions!!! I've never been up for an inferno weekend, so it has been a priority this season. Of course, it had to fall on Alta's closing weekend...always a party not to miss atop High Rustler. Then again, The Beach Party in the Ravine is oh so sweet too!!!

I'm heading for the Hermit Lake Shelters, unless there is a safe place to camp in GOS. Should we expect a bunch of skiers in GOS this weekend?

Tig, Pulverschwein, 8's...it'd be great to see you guys again and, of course, any other T4T'ers...

The stars are shifting - oh so slowly - into alignment towards a friday day trip for me...GOS with a finish on Hillman's anyone? Or perhaps even a Dodge's drop inspired by the recent epic report...

pm me with interest

if i don't go to sugarloaf i'll probably do a jog up hillmans to access one of the runs up there before heading to work in portsmouth for 2 pm. so i'll be needing to be in the car leaving pinkham for work by 12 noon. at least i'll be heading south when joey is heading north so traffic shouldn't be bad for me.

The weather is looking oh so sweet right thru the weekend (and even into Monday with slightly cooling temps - good news for those running that little marathon down in Beantown).

I'm at absolute 100% Friday, Saturday (I'm doing the run, hike and ski legs in the Inferno) and back again Sunday. I'm hoping I can barely walk Monday!! It's official for me in the Inferno as they finally got our registration info up on the website. Looks like bib #70 for the 2-person team of Team Waters.

Footlong - pm sent your way.

I've only been up Tux's once and it was bluebird skys and 15 feet of snow at the end of May. What is your opinion of conditions expected for this Saturday with the high winds predicted?

Thanks

ok guys,

Im new to the forums but have been a lurker for quite a while. I have a difficult scenario that i would like to present. I am hoping to ski Tux on Sunday for the first time. I am confident i have sufficient ability to ski tux, based on a couple of things. I have talked to some friends who have skied it, and they say I my ability is more than adequate for skiing multiple routes in the ravine. The other is based on my own info. In preparation for this trip I've been trying to scout out the toughest lines at the ridge at Jay and various parts of Sugarloaf. I can ski every marked and unmarked trail at these places with ease. Now here's the catch: I'm only fourteen. I might sound like I'm boasting, but I'm simply trying to let people know my abilities so i don't end up at the bowl and realise that i can't ski down. Now, my mom is all for this, but she cannot ski the ravine because she is only an intermediate skier. There is a possibility, though, of her walking up to lunch rocks and watching. The problem is that i cannot find anyone to go with. At my school, all the decent skiers are either away or they cant fathom the idea of earning their turns. So then, I basically have asked everyone i know if they will come up and ski it together and nobody would. So my final question is would anyone be comfortable taking me along? I know my age is kind of a problem because of my age, but please guys, your my last hope. (to sound cliched) One last thing, if i were to hike to the bowl alone, would it be hard or rude to tag along with a group that would be doing my desired route. Is this frowned upon?

Nick

Nick,

Welcome aboard! Sounds like you've got a good head on your shoulders.
As to the above question, in general (and especially on a weekend), I'd say it would actually be a very smart move. Just talk with the group before hand to get the okay. But, on an April weekend you certainly will not have a problem of finding other people!

I will be up there on Sunday. I'm still not sure of my exact plans (other than being at Pinkham no later than 7:30 so as to procure a parking spot). If I'm heading into the bowl I'd be glad to show you around. Unfortunately after I post this I won't have access to email or internet thru Sunday. I also do not have a radio. So, here is my cell (508-769-8140). Call me later today or later Saturday and we can see.

BDskier, There will indeed be loads of people on sunday. You highlight your skiing abilities, how about your hiking? Ar you used to spending several hours climbing a hill with a heavy pack (likely at least 30 lbs)? Do you have a good idea of what you need to bring in addition to your skis and boots (check out recent posts on this)?

BTW, if your mom was into packing her gear in, she could certainly ski part of the bowl as an intermediate (she need not climb higher than she is comfortable - many people do that) and you could both ski out together down the Sherbie.

Thanks for making sure they're good, but i'm ready for the hike. I backpacked the TRT this past summer with a 40 lb pack, plus i'm running traack at school right now. So all in all, im in good shape.

Hey there bdskier,

Good way to reach out.....look back in my post history and you'll see I've done the same. After moving back from Utah I didn't have a car for a while so I was bumming rides whenever I could....it's all good.

So, I am driving up from Western Mass tonight. I'll most likely be staying at the Hermit Lake Shelters.

Give me a call if I can help you out. The same with anyone else...I'd love to meet up with some T4T'ers...
