Parabolic Tarp System

Has anyone had any experience with a parabolic tarp system, or any tarp system?

I'm looking to minimize weight for a trip in the Whites coming up in Aug and don't want to bring my heavy 4 season.

And with the system, wouldn't you recommend a bug net ?

I'll be staying 2 nights a Perch, and 1 or 2 at Valley in mid Aug

I did a couple of days in the Northern Presis in a August a few years ago. None of us suffered any trouble with bugs at the Perch. However there was a fair amount of smoke in the air....

I imagine there will be similar conditions

I'm having a hard time finding just the parabolic tarp, without any poles and such.

Anyone know where I can just get the tarp, I plan on using my trekking poles and some line

Have you checked out the BD mids?

http://www.bdel.com/gear/mega_light.php

Something such as that paired with this OR bug bivy might be just what you are looking for.

Some fine Dominican smoke does wonders for keeping the bugs at bay!

Dude, my next tent will be a mega-mid or a kiva...frigging things are awesome, 4 person room, solo weight! Bug kit for summer and neener-neener skeeters in the winter!

Speaking of fine cigars...got some med/strong partagas en humitubos par especial, and some med/mild Fonsecas for every day. I hope you guys can get on the hill before they are gone

I've often used an ultralight poncho with my hiking poles. Bugs were never an issue with chemistry but usually I dislike that stuff on my skin let alone my equipment. Recently(last yr?) I did splurge and got myself an Evolution D2 tent from Big Sky International. I really like it because it's roomy enough for 2 when I camp with my girlfriend and she doesn't whine about bugs. The total tent weight comes to 3.85lbs incl the poles, stakes, fly AND footprint(I got this to extend the life of the tent and they do do that well )

Backpackinglight has extolled the benefits of tarp camping, etc.
Assorted tarps and setups.... explore the site and get tips on setups, etc.
