Perseid Meteor Shower

I'm heading up to Mt. Washington this weekend to do some hiking, but I just found out that the Perseid Meteor Shower is the 11th (I guess that's the peak anyway), and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on the best place for viewing. I've watched it (and others) in the past from my yard in Central Jersey, and needless to say, light pollution sucks. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

The meteor shower will appear to eminate from the constellation Perseus. This means there will be more shooting stars seen in that direction than any other. Perseus will rise around 9pm in the North-North-East (if you've got your compass it's 42.2 deg)

Basically, a good view to the north east. The moon will be coming up around midnight in the same spot generally.

HoJo deck has a good view to the east, but not the north-east... blocked by the hut. The rocks to the east of the deck might make a nice spot.

This is based on my calculations though, which have been flawed in the past!

msheppard, Your info on the location of Perseus and the time it would rise was a great help! Thanks. I didn't try HoJo's for viewing though. Because of some event going on near Mt. Washington, every bed was filled within 50 miles. I ended up going to Franconia Notch instead. On Saturday we hiked the Ridge Trail, hitting the peaks of Lincoln and Lafayette. Then around 10pm we headed up to Artists Bluff to watch the stars. It was a crystal clear night and we saw 50 "shooting stars" in just over an hour. I would have stayed up there all night, but the wind was relentless and even though we brought extra clothes, it was a little too cold. I'll know better for next year. Thanks again for the info. -HH
