Bouldering @ West Hartfort Reservoir - Small Tr

Scottie and I used our CT climb book (Falcon Books) I think

We had our sites set on "Split Rock" which looks from the book right off of the trail (60 feet according to the book)

We had no luck in finding it, the map and approach description is totally useless, we looked for about 30mins hiking around in the woods with my pack on and Scottie's crash pad attached to him; we must of been a sight. No luck, but we knew of other places within that we did see.

We ended up finding a neat traprock boulder near a 35' crag which topped at about 10-11' full of interesting problems and difficult moves, we worked on topping the boulder for a while with Scottie's success, and my many failed attempts.

I have to say I made significant progress and at one point I was just about there, but had limited strength from the previous attempts.
I can say I think I have a solution to the problem now and returning with full strength I am pretty sure I can top it.

The area was clean, not really any broken glass except for a few rouge pieces here and there, and no one bothered us.

I was a little worried because the MDC being legally conscious will supposedly "ticket" you if they catch you climbing; I find this intolerable. They are worried you might hurt yourself and sue, but you can jog, hike, mtn bike all you want. So I guess if you get hurt doing any of those, they are OK with a lawsuit attempt. Either way I don't think they risk much being liable for any injury.

Anyway it was great fun, I have a water blister on my right thumb, and it hurts to type because my fingures are sensitive now from being beat up on the rock. Mmmm the wonderful pain of efforts; the pain I enjoy.

Heres two shots taken by my phone, the color was horrible so I opted to discard the "color data" and post B/W, but nothing touched up in these to accentuate anything special; Just simple shots.

The boulder was under-hung making the moves very difficult and driving home the fact that foot placement is KEY.

Heres me on the boulder

Heres Scottie on the boulder

Good times, now its time to take a shower and rest up.
