I say go to your local shop. I just bought a cross bike before christmas and after much searching and questioning on line I went to a local shop. Everyone has an opinion about fit. It is very rare that a factory bike will fit someone perfectly

going by inseam I could have fit two sizes...then they looked at reach. Which determined that the larger frame was better for me as all we need to do is switch out a stem and seat post and voila...perfect fit.

The switch out cost me nothing I spent about an hour being fit after the purchase and they will tweak things for me here and there as I put some miles on it.

they put me on last years model (new) which saved me $150 and threw in some crank brothers pedels and gave me three years free service on the new bike and 50% off tune-ups on my mountain bike.

Good luck

skituxnoob will become famouser soon enough
most good shops will charge a fee to size you up, which in turn will point you in the right direction.

Or buy a mtn bike and you'll barely sit down anyways!

Locotiki is on a distinguished road
Not sure where you are located but if you are in NH this might be something you want to check out.

This would be the serious side of bike fitting. They are having an open house this weekend in Concord.
