Lapping Up The Last Bits 5/12/12

I hadn't been on the planks since poaching Shawnee last month and was pumped to finally get in some turns. Most of all I was especially excited to try out one of the pairs of ski's my friend had made over the winter. It looked like the weather was actually going to cooperate and convinced my brother and a couple friends to join me.

It was a bustling TRT Saturday morning and everyone was headed to the ravine. Reaching the crossroads we made our diversion and started our steep climb towards our schusstination.

The canvas was clean and untracked, just waiting for some artisans. So we set the boot pack and got right to work.

We didn't have as much vertical as our friends in the ravine below but had the place to ourselves and made up for it with many runs.

The weather couldn't have been any better, being sheltered from the strong gusts, and stayed that way all afternoon. After hours of this we decided to call it a day as the lenticulars started materializing.

Just as we were packing up two fellows arrived to get in on some of the action and saw them off as they climbed up the ladder. (Nice to meet you both!) Looking back at out handiwork there were no complaints. A day well spent!

My weapon of choice, GREAT work Toby!

My friend has been making pro lacrosse sticks for a few years using a patented re-sawed wood laminate core, decided to apply it to skis, built a press and voila! This first run was made in two sizes 176cm and 184cm, dimensions 127/95/119, raised tail, rockered tip, some camber under foot. What really blew me away was how incredibly light they were without being noodley. Even with the Marker Dukes and the bigger dimensions they were significantly lighter than my BD Havocs with dynafits! A wood core that is stronger, stiffer and lighter, not bad. Oh...and they ski'd great to!
