Mace is on a distinguished road
Tuckerman Ravine 6.16.12

Hiked up into the bowl on Saturday before a 2PM tee time for a few June turns. Weather was great, upper 70's in the bowl with scattered clouds. Black flies were minimal and had no effect on our day. Snow pack is dwindling. I will post a few comparison pictures that i have later. Cute looks much better than it did 6.19.10. There was still a skiable path from the choke point to the bottom of the heart shaped patch. I do not believe that will survive another week though. We will most likely be left with just the heart shaped patch next weekend after this heat wave. Sluice looks much worse. Sliuce has less snow than I have seen on it then the past three 4th of July's.

View of the bowl.

Slice. Snow is prob about 12 feet thick throughout. Snow bridge is still there but will not be much longer.

Sluice from Chute.

Chute above the heart shaped patch. Choke point is to the top right. The slope is fairly undermined in the center.

Snow is about 4 feet thick up at the top of Chute.

View down Chute from the top. I was surprised how long of a run remained. There were still good turns to be had!

Overview of the remains of Chute.

Overall I was surprised at how well Chute still skied and surprised at how bad the remains of Sluice looked compared with previous years. Sluice should hold around for a few more weeks depending on weather though. This heat wave we are expecting def won't help matters.

Snow or no snow I will be hiking my skis up to the bowl on July 7 with a crew similar to the crew we had on July 2 last year, for those of you who saw us. If there is any slight remains of snow I will ski it and document how much remains. I call this event "The Patriotic Search for Snow" and we hike grills, food, and skis up into the bowl with the only rule of you must wear a flag resembling item to eat off the grill. Hopefully I will bump into a few of you again and bring some burgers if your there!

Edit: This was also the first time my friend and I have been in Tux and we were the only skiers. I always run into at least one other skier when I am there but not this time.

Nice...thanks for that.

It's been a crazy year. As for my part, I was again in Montreal for the weekend, too busy to take the time. That was somewhat what happened to me the previous weekend, previous engagement, etc

I was there last July 2nd...looking forward for skiing in July again this year, but it will be far from Washington, well...far from New Hampshire.
