Please help me make sense of the FRENZY!!!!
Friends,
No doubt you've heard of the fresh snow all over the west. I've been thinking about getting out to Utah this spring. I was there in February. The Day Planner has been making it difficult to break-away for even a few days. Luckily, that is because I've been spending time elsewhere in the outdoors. As it happens, I can get away this weekend...which I had been considering as late as Monday afternoon. I put my desire to go to Utah to rest when I was invited on a White Mountain Adventure this weekend.
I'm having a hard time deciding what I want to do...
1) Spending the weekend hiking in the Whites (Presidential Traverse) with some awesome people. Of course there will be some potential for skiing (Tux/Easties) on Sunday.
2) Hop a flight to Salt Lake in the AM for about $300/RT, crash with buddies, make some lift-served turns at Snowbird on Saturday/Sunday and fly home Sunday evening...like I've done many, many times before....Grrrr!!!
Is it really worth going all the way out there to, pretty much, ski solo...it's beautiful, great to catch up with friends and just spend time in Utah!! It's too easy really....
Help me make sense of the frenzy!!!!

If you can burn 300 without feeling it, then go, you can do the presi traverse another time.

Keeping one's word is worth a great deal even if it disconcerting to one's desires.
When we have our reputation, the comforts of this world are far sweeter.

Then again, "there's no such thing as friends on a powder day."

Ah yes, I thought of that, but here is the kicker. In order to nab first tracks* on some powder choked gully ( OINK/SNORK) one must first have got there with them, as promised.
But if honoring a prior commitment keeps one from missing that pow-pow....so what? One's skiing friends will know that one's word can be counted on just as well as one's new hiking friends will know it. In this way one's circle of respect grows.
* Gracefully buying the first round at days end after poaching all the best lines...that, my friend, is honor and pride rolled up into one priceless day!

Ya know those economic-stimulus checks George sent out.....
instead of sitting on them or using them to pay down debt
generated during the ski season... why not put them to GOOD
use and Jet west.....
Now if someone can convince my boss that this is a really GOOD
use of that all important SICK TIME.....

Well Folks,
I appreciate the responses no matter what side of better judgement you may lie. In the end, despite my securing airfare and a place to crash, I decided to stay on the East Coast. Not really sure why, for there was no reason for me not to go. I'm looking forward to using the airfare soon but, when I have more time to visit...I'm thinking Wyoming next week. I found out in the midst of my crisis last night that a good friend, who was supposed to be traversing the Presi's with me this weekend, has a job interview in Casper next week. She's never been to Wyoming or, more importantly, Casper so, I bit my tongue because I didn't want to influence her one way or the other going into the interview. She is looking at a sweet job as a program manager for the local department of recreation. She was a Sports Management major at Springfield College.
Anyway, I might tag along with her next week. For now, I am about to bust out of work and head up north. Sleeping at Dolly Copp tonight in prepartion for a 5 AM departure. Hopefully I'll be at Crawford Notch before midnight tomorrow. If all goes well, I'll be making some late season turns on the Easties on Sunday...potentially down-climbing into TUX.
Have a great weekend and stay safe,

Not that I agreed with the whole check writing stunt....George decided to keep my check for himself. One of his henchmen were nice enough to inform me in writing....

Hey Rich... clean your BOX!
Good move on 'assisting' your bud to Wyoming.... If they get the gig then you have a place to crash out there! Things like this have a way of working out.
