Mounting Bindings

So I recently had my Marker Dukes mounted on some K2 Obsethed skis, and sadly I think the ski shop might have messed up. Upon getting the skis home I noticed on one ski a slight gap between where the binding is mounted to the ski. For instance, if you look at the sidewall of the ski, where the binding meets the ski, shouldn't it be completely flush, i.e. no gap whatsoever? There is enough room for several sheets of paper here, and I can see the screws. Should I attempt to screw the screws in tighter? I think not because the sealant/glue, but please do educate me. Needless to say I am either way too concerned with details (I think not) or the ski shop did a ****ty job. I was reluctant to go to this ski shop in the first instance, but due to time pressures and my location I didn't have much choice. Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated.

screw em

screw em down tight. the problem with many ski techs is they use power drills to mount binders. a good ole posi driver is the only way to go from start to finish. i doubt that whoever mounted yer binders used epoxy, and if he/she used glue or some form of, you can just screw em in tight to close off the gap.

another thing to always watch for is whether the skis are actually mounted the same on both skis evenly. most techs don't triple measure and just line the jig up with the boot center line on the ski, which depending on the manufacturer can be off as much as a half an inch! the atomic made BD skis were always off at least and 8th to 1/4 of an inch. atomics are awfully marked as well.

i bet there are a ton of uneven mis-mounted skis out there. good anal techs are hard to find. i'm wicked anal when it comes to tech work.

What rog said. Only other thing I would do is back the screws out first to get the base of the binding flush with the deck of the ski. Then while applying pressure down on the binding heel or toe, screw those suckers down. If they appear to lock up or don't want to go down, it's possible that the holes need tapping. Purely a guess at this point without seeing the holes or ski to know if it has metal in it. I'm in the Portland area if you're local, or I'm sure rog could help you in the Portsmouth area. We prolly both have the mounting jig to check/ confirm mount points. Too much force on an untapped hole could delam the topsheet . Don't want to hear about that. Good luck. paul

Thanks guys I appreciate all the info. I am going to take your advice and screw em in tight. Still really irked by the fact that I paid someone else to do this and they did a poor job. Never going there again.
