"Good Friday" at T.R.
Hey everyone... this marks my first posting to the TFT board, a milestone in the making, I reckon. Let me first say that this entire website blows me away. It goes without saying that Tuckerman Ravine is a place dear in the hearts of its many longtime devotees. After my entire family migrated to the West many generations ago, I found myself moving back out here just about five years back in the pursuit of 'higher learning.' well, this many years later, I can tell you that my greatest days are still those spent reminiscing with old friends atop of the uncut bowls of my colorado birthplace's backcountry, tele skis clamped firmly underfoot. in any case, a very respected friend of mine who worked with me at a tune shop in copper mountain, CO one winter once mentioned the legend of tuckerman ravine to me in passing, neither of us caring all that much given the consistent 13,000 foot waist deep powder days we were then realizing on a consistent basis. well... with less than two months to go before my east side graduation and subsequent leap overseas, I have vowed to make it to the legendary tuckerman at least once, if not twice in the coming weeks. As of now, I'm thinking of driving up there on thursday with a female companion, possibly crashing in gorham (to suit her tastes), rallying the ravine all day friday, celebrating the occasion all night, and then making the long trip back on saturday. my only concern at this point is how intense the crowd factor is going to be with the 'Son of Inferno' events slated to start on Friday. would any of you suggest trying to make the trip a day earlier, or perhaps even to postpone for a couple of weeks (following another much-anticipated venture to n'orleans for the jazz fest)????? I can tell by the looks of past postings that I can trust some of your judgment call on the 14 hour round trip bet. Any thoughts....????? Thanks so much.
