Both Cog and Road set to Open May 1st!
So May 1st the Cog will be open to the top and the Auto Road is said to be opening up to 4.5 miles just at treeline. I wonder if the recent snow will push those dates back?

Road will be open to the 5 mile mark but there is no parking and you can't leave the car unattended.
You can't get off the cog and they don't alow skis on the train.
At my weakest moments skining up I'd gladly take the train.

That would be cool, skiing on soot covered snow.

No Soot anymore. A week ago when skinning up they were running their new boi-deisel engines. No smoke and smells like Freedom Fries. Kinda makes you hungry

I beleive the plan is to still run the old coal burning engine occasionally for train enthusiasts, but predominately use the Bio-D's for the majority who want a clean ride.
Those NH engineers did an awesome job designing, tooling and building the new engine on site from scratch.
Cheers to good ole' New Hampshire ingenuity.

Remember, pro's and con's to each
Bio D creates fine particulate matter, which is actually more of an air pollutant than coal soot, which is a coarse particulate, which means it settles out of the air more rapidly. Not that it's holy, either, but just playing a bit of devil's advocate.

During the peak summer season, from what I remember, their are 4 or 5 trains that run continuously throughout the day. Last year I remember seeing two coal trains and the rest were diesel.
