Outrageously stolen from Telemark.

2008 was ridiculous.
we were there at 8am the morning they "scheduled" opening to the summit so we could be first car (i am nearly 100% certain it was actually May 24th that year, despite the fact that Jshefftz says it was the 29th...typo??), and they said they might not be able to do it because it had been SNOWING the previous few days including the night before. They odds were low to get up top, but nevertheless we waited around anyway.
Finally at about 11am or noon they finally told the three of us who had been sitting in the cafe and "assuming" the coffee was free refills that we could drive to the summit. I just assumed they got tired of us "refilling" our coffees.
Anyway... We get up top... temp was like 33 degrees... broken sunshine...just us... and the easties were just brimming with freshly loaded pow.
next day it was sunny and hot and busy... not bad... but that fist day... INSANE

Positively drooling! Slackfest looks like 12th & 13th. If the road is open for the 5th & 6th, I'll go up then too.
If the snow hangs on into Memorial Day Weekend...The Official Mount Washington Memorial Day BBQ and Slackfest will be on and the Memorial Day 10th Mountain Slalom gates will be set on Monday the 28th....
...IF....

I am pretty sure I got 1st or 2nd tracks the day we were there in 2008 (Mem Day weekend I believe). I still remember the sound of the refreshed corn snow as you arced on top of it. Schlew, schlew, schlew.... Amazing day.
Have to see how work schedules affect us and whether there is anything left to ski. Not sure I'm up for the effort to lap 180 ft like last year! Still, twas a fun weekend.

Indeed yes -- I copied it over incorrectly from my records. Thanks for the correction.
The funny part is that although my records had the correct May 24 date for that year, I had no idea that opening day was so dramatic that year!

Auto Road opens tomorrow but only to treeline (4,200'). T2B "within the next two weeks".

For what its worth, they're driving state park trucks up to the summit, no chains. I assume the dirt section is muddy still, hence the closure still. The snowfields are skiing at approx 500 feet vertical still, we'll see how they hold up to this niar event on our immediate horizon.

tux skied very well today. 900+ vert still in left, and 800+ vert still in chute. chute skied amazing today for multiple laps. even if the road opens with very little skiing offered, there's still plenty in the bowl for the walkers.
high fields looked quite good for the season we've had, but like early june on a good average one.
