MRG this weekend?

Headed to Telefest Friday night... Renting a condo in Sugarbush with a bunch of friends.. Hoping to take advantage of the wealth of knowledge and maybe accellerate my learning...

Anybody headed up?

I'll be on the tucks channel..

Learning from a friend who just learned....

I'd love to go, but I've got plans. Guess what my plans are? That's right, a birthday party. For a kid too. Only this time, it's my kid. So I have to attend and everyone who got invited damn well better show the hell up... I gave up a LOT of skiing this year for their damn kids parties.
</rant>

Right now the forcast is for SNOW SNOW SNOW until saturday when it'l gonna be sunny! Perfect skiing weather.

DMC, you're turning into quite the pinhead. First you're filming freeheelers, then you try it, now you're going to a telebration at MRG...

Graceful and efficient modes of travel do that to folks...

years ago I discovered that riding my bike* from Alston to Mt. Wachusett and back took only 5.5-6 hours, with a long summit break for lunch...about that time the grace and efficiency of cycling found a home in my physical self expression. The next winter the same thing happened regarding X-C skiing, we did some long tours in the Pemi and elsewhere . The change from exertion to self expression came first, then something else that I could and still can feel but not adequetly describe.

Tele has changed everything for me...here's hoping that exertion soon becomes self expression and more for you DMC!

*That would be about 2 years into USCF training and cometition. I hate to think about the crashed bikes and damaged flesh it took to get that far. But I would not go another way if offered a trip in the "Way Back Machine".

I've been the "token snowboarder" amongst telemarkers for a long time... Hunter Mountain(In the Catskills on New York) has a lot of telemarkers for some reason. As bad as Hunter's reputation is - it has soul that not alot of people can ever appreciate unless they get to know the mountain and the area.

All the drunken promises of actually trying freeheeling were finally paid off last weekend.. I had a blast. My friends were cool and stuck with me.. Just a normal ski day - with a few more rest stops...

I've been pondering tele for several years. After an amazing day of tele lessons WAY back at Sunshine, I'm been thinking more about it and the possibilities in recent years.

Keep up these posts and I may be converted real soon!

I too have taken to X-C in the last few years RR. In fact, my wife and I have done as much X-C as alpine this season. We did a late night X-C trip in the Gatineau Park north of Ottawa last week for the first time... what a hoot! 1/2 moon was just enough light to get by. Had a great dinner... well Chocolate fondue and wine, at a cabin at the mid point and then finished the night with a very long decent back down to the car. Being a downhill skier all my life, I took the 'correct' approach and 'shushed' the trail for max speed only occassionally turning on my head lamp on the steeper sections. Only once... think it was something to do with the lack of edges on the skis!

Hmmm... I have digressed from the original topic! Ooops!

Hi T4Ters,

Just wanted to say hi. Great forum you have here. I actually found you all in a search for Tele info. I am a long time Tuckerman skier (alpine) but I have just converted to Tele this season.

Anyway Great Forum- Looks like snow (finally) around here towards the end of the week!

I made a decision to never try snowboarding once I was 40ish. I had my chance at Loon one year, but they had run out of rental boards and never got around to trying it since. Now in my mid 40's I consider my back is more important. My butt can take the abuse of learning on a board, but the thought of falling and sending my back out of wack isn't worth it to me? Any other mid life skiers have thoughts on this one?

Then again tele is harder on the knees, but I still have some life in them. Hard to believe after years of abuse in the bumps.

I know a few people that started riding after 40... But it will hurt you for the first few times... Very few people don't get slamed the first couple of days. Wirsts and knees will take a lot of abuse.. Once the wrist gets tired and sore you'll begin to fall flat on your a$$ more.. It's ugly...

But after you learn it's a lot easier on the knees then skiing..

HeyBC is an unknown quantity at this point
Took up riding in 2002/2003 after a 20 year haitus from skiing. Last time I skied was Tucks, April '82. So why did I stop skiing and take up riding? Well, I graduated from UNH (the 5 year plan) and moved back to NJ. Spent most of my time the past 20 years chasing waves at the Jersey Shore adn warm tropical places. My 11 Year old son (now 12) took up riding, which seemed like a natural cross over from surfing. There it is...some day I will do the tele thing.

Speaking of trying something new, i.e., boarding, at a not-so-young age, my dad is 62, and I've heard him say more then a few times he would like to try it. He's done alpine since him and my mom were first dating some 30something years ago.
