Pico: Not so bad

While stuck in the K-Mart area, I finished early one day and wanted to ski more, but was sick of the rat race. As I drove back past Pico, on a whim, I figured the snow gods would provide me with parking if I was destined to check Pico out -> A space popped up in the second row, so I headed to their summit. I never skied Pico before, but they had nice powdery trails thru the woods (from the summit) that no one else seemed to notice. It was a beautiful afternoon, away from all the crowds and noise.
Their trails would not pose a particular challenge to most of you. But, I wanted to mention it, in case you are ever stuck in the K-Mart area, and want a tranquil, enjoyable experience - it was one of my best days this winter

Absolutely. Pico has the retro lodge, the fun spots in the trees and quiet places for a little serenity development! Funny, powder is what comes to mind there....I've only been twice: freshies both times!

I swung chairs at Pico back in the winter of '91. Crappy job. I thought it would be great to be able to ski free - but I only had like 1 day off a week and only used it to ski maybe 3 times.

I liked Pico though. Definatly an option if you've only got 1/2 day or something - or if you've never been. It is always great to explore new places.

I wouldn't recommend getting a season's pass though... most peeps would get bored there in a couple days.

Glad you had such a good day though mumster! My favorite was always that little double on the right... ends at a pond. Never a lift line cause it only serves like 3 trails, but there's some fun to be had.

Wonderful, light powder. It snowed several inches at K-Mart, but the wind blew it all off and the overall effect was the usual hard-pack. The powder at Pico stayed in place - either it's a more sheltered peak, or it's narrower trails with more trees keep the snow from being blown. It was terrific, silky powder.

That sounds like the place. Been about 3 years for me.
