DNC: Not enough baloons
No red sox game tonight, so I wathced the DNC. Suzy and I were all excited about kerry's speach - and kept replacing his words with "baloons" cause we were very excitied for the baloon drop.
Got to say, I felt a little let down. I was expecting so many baloons that the cameras would show little else, but they they dropped them slowly... probably had to send each one through a metal detector or something.

They realized how much latex all those balloons would use up, Bill got worried, so they toned it down a little

Heard this morning that the director was yelling "faster, faster" but yelled so frantically he lost his voice or was incomprehensible over the mic system to the droppers.

We were also replacing the commentators words with baloon after the thing - saying, "Many a presidental race has been won and lost on baloon drop volume." and the like.
I'd love to see a study - Baloons dropped at convention vs. party performance in Nov election. I would not fund such a study however.

I noticed a balloon shortage last night too, sounds like CNN viewers did as well.
Quote:
|
CNN, often accused by conservatives and Republicans of being overly friendly to Democrats, did the Democrats no favor Thursday night when, following John Kerry's acceptance speech, it decided to switch to the voice of convention producer Don Mischer. Over pictures of the candidate and his wife waving, Mischer was heard becoming increasingly frantic as he instructed, "Go balloons" but saw few of them fall. "I don't see anything happening," he shouted. "Jesus, we need more balloons. I want all balloons to go, goddamn. No confetti. No confetti. No confetti. I want more balloons. What's happening to the balloons?" In fact, viewers may have been unaware of any glitch at all except for Mischer's frenetic shouts.

Thanks for all the talk-up on the Daily Show, was flipping through after the red sox game, and it was on, and pretty funny... and then the "Special Correspondant" making the red sox / democratic party references... **** THE YANKEES!
