alternate proxy server question
Hey,
Im here firewalled out of everything and in my free periods, Id like to check my mail and other stuff.
EVERYTHING is blocked by our servers.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to bypass.
Maybe an alternate proxy server?
Anyone have one I can use?
We use Lotus notes which I cant even put in my POP3 comcast account in cause all the permissions are blocking me from doing so.
ERRRR THIS is getting on my nerves.
Any help would be much apreciated.
Thanks

If you are proxied, the only way out to the internet is through your proxy server. If it is not allowing you to certain sites, you are basically screwed. The proxy server lives on your LAN, so it's not like you can bypass it and go to an external proxy server.

I know this may sound silly, but some admins are not thorough...try using the actual IP address of the site you're trying to go to.
If you don't know how to do this, just go out to a command prompt and type in Ping www.yahoo.com (or whatever) when the IP address comes up (ex. 203.222.212.234) put that in the address bar of the borwser...
Usually DOESNT work, but maybe...worth a shot..someone else on here will have a better suggestion, and if I can come up with a more clever one I will post it. I'm betting though if they dont let you configure the notes, you might have trouble changing a proxy server too.

Good suggestion Matt. You MAY be able to go to the IP address, but probably not.

Hey I never said he wouldnt get in trouble...but it seems he's in a "school" environment, so I doubt someones watching all the time...no budget for that.
It was just a suggestion anyway...sometimes it works...sometimes it doesn't...depends on how intense the admin is...ha..if he's anything like me...he'll go right through via IP addy..my users are far too inexperienced to figure that out on their own..HAHA HA

Ahhh you obviously have an admin that actually works and doesnt sit on T4T all day......HA.......
I am at a loss....they are really thorough if they've removed the command prompt shortcut...I think you're kinda on LOCKDOWN....
Sorry brother...
