Mt. Agamenticus 02.26.2005

So, My ASC pass is no good today but I was determined to get some turns in with my new gear. I finally got My hammerheads mounted on my Atomic Tm:ex's and I cut my BD Glidelite skins as well.

Kinda a gear review as wel.If your not interested skip to the next paragraph. TM:ex's: I have the R:ex's for alpine so these weren't much of a stretch - they ski similar for sure. I think they might be a tad lighter but tough to tell. Hammerheads: these things ROCK! IMO they hole up to all thiner hype. Holy crap can these things hold the ball of your foot on the ski -- I've never felt so in control from edge to edge on teles before. Also, the "hammerheel" with the climbing bale is a brilliant addition (now that i figured it out). The spring loaded bale is great for climbs and quick and easy to use. BD glidelites: Happy with these for sure. they gripped great. They claim better gliding performance (go figure) couldn't really tell due to the skiing conditions.

Due to a tight schedule Mt A's was my chioce. Lame friends and an out of town girlfriend had my flying solo - well, with "man's best friend".

I95 was bleak to say the least... It tool almost an hour to get there due to some navigations snafus (dogs fualt ). When reached the "access rd" I was surprised by it's incline and abundance of snow. I quickly realized I was actually driving to the top. <tangent> It's always weird skiing and then skinning/postholeing back to your car -- It's kinda like drinking on a credit card, you never know how deep your in till you take a step back an look. Just back ass-ward... </tangent>

Anywho, the top of Mt. A's is pretty open and had a decent amount of snow given the circumstances.

I quickly booted up and zipped out on to the peak. Now I had no real idea where I was going so I couldn't tell you really what I did -- besides look for something worth skiing. I was AMAZED at the quality and amount of snow on the back side (or the north side i believe). still didn't know where i was going but where i did go was GREAT!

I could tell from my first couple of turns I was in for a fun afternoon.

Before Justin:

After Justin:

This is where I ended up. I figured this was the bottom anyway or at least close to. Through on the Skins and zipped back up for another run. Fun time, even my myself -- though it seems Kayden got herself in most of the pics Just might go back tommorow if I have time...

It's not a bad place for 700ft of vert. considering it's proximity makes it even better.

Nice TR. I hit the Big A early this year after that big dump in Jan. There was no base when i was there. 700 ft of vert? Not even close. It's more like 200ft vert

You couldn't get 700 feet if you skied all the way to the ocean. (Elev, 692')

I haven't been there but looking at the topo

Topo

I could see 300' maybe, but as NH says it looks like 200 skiable.

Looks like fun in any case.

You know, the weekend might be the pick of it for Sugarbush with the expected upslope snow.
